Michael is very unprofessional. I wouldn't not recommend him at all! I have no idea of the oil wax garbage he used on my floor, other than a sealer won't stick to it. Its looks terrible. Now my hardwood floor is peeling and the treads he built are bowing. He doesn't stand by his work, I paid him when I shouldn't have, and the stain and sealer peeled a week afterwards. He won't come back to fix the job. I have to get all his terrible work re done.
Save yourself money and stress, don't use him or his company for any hardwood needs.
This client was extremely difficult to deal with but I did try my best. The peeling is from taping to a freshly coated floor which I told both the client and her general contractor not to do. As for 'treads bowing' that is impossible. They are biscuit joined, glued to the framing and screwed and plugged. They are not moving. The review she posted goes to show the ignorance on her part. I documented every single step of our process for instances just like this. There is nothing wrong with the work I supplied in this case. We will not be held accountable for client abuse. We would be more than happy to go back and fix the painters mistake but it will be billable.
Ultimate Hardwood (Hereinafter referred to as "UHW") was contacted at the end of January 2017 to perform an estimate of our hardwood floors refinishing. Initial recommendation was to use a Rubio Monocoat product. During the sanding phase, UHW recommends Oidie's Oil Dark as a better product & sent information for review (Odie's Oil claims that the product is "Water and stain proof—no spotting" and can be refreshed by "buffing on a light application if ever desired" -- We agree with the new product recommendation.
On April 10th, the refinishing was completed and we were advised not to move furniture into the house for 72 hours and full cure would be in 2 weeks.
Everything was fine until we started noticing problems 3-4 weeks after initial application of the Odie's Oil product. Water was splashed out of the sink and several drops got on the floor, water spots were visible (After wiping away immediately with a microfiber cloth). We contacted UHW to inquire about what cleaning product to use -- UHW ends up recommending a vinegar/water solution to clean floors & also states "The finish shouldn't spot". This solution does not work & the water spots remained.
We contact UHW on May 9th to request a visit to the home for a floor inspection. UHW doesn't inspect floors until May 28th & agrees that there is a problem, stating he would discuss the issue with Odie's Oil & that he would have to either perform a mechanical buff or complete a re-oiling (At this point there are water spots, wipe & track marks that are not removable).
UHW states floor will need to be re-oiled & we both agree on August 3rd (Allowing 10 days for the floor to cure without interruption while we are away on holiday).
On June 19th, we contacted UHW with concerns about filler material coming out between the floorboards in places and if we should be even more concerned if it starts to occur anywhere else (UHW states this is normal on June 26th).
Actual date of the re-oil does not occur until August 8th (UHW stated UPS lost his initial order of Odie's Oil & that he was going to have to perform the re-oil on Friday, August 4th -- which did not occur). Also prior to notifying us, we had e-mailed UHW expressing our concern with the lack of communication, wondering what was going on, frustration with having less than 5 days for the floor to cure while on vacation, expressing dissatisfaction. UHW's response was that the re-oil was a "professional courtesy" and that they are in no way responsible for maintenance or cleaning after the fact (Even though UHW stated and confirmed previously there was an issue with the initial application of the product and that he was going to resolve the problem).
UHW also informs us that we could possibly have a humidity and cupping issue & that the re-oil was not optimal (Note that no humidity readings were provided up until this point -- On April 8th UHW stated that after sanding, the floors were in rough condition but are now "very flat". There is no mention of any evidence of damage from moisture or humidity, also no humidity test results were provided).
After returning home from holiday, we noticed visible circular buff marks & shoe prints in multiple areas. We requested a response as to why we were not notified of the supposed humidity issue prior to performing the re-oil, no response was given.
Attached are pictures of the issues after the second re-oiling. Also note that we have e-mails & other photos backing up the review above.
I'd like to take this opportunity to clear up some of the misleading statements posted by Paul.
First is the problem was never the application of the oil the problem was premature use/abuse and or cleaning too soon or with the wrong products.
Secondly water spots are light hazy looking spot. If there's metal involved like a stool leg then they spots can become dark/black in color. I've done 1000's of hardwax oiled floors so I know what premature use/abuse looks like and I've contacted the manufacturer and we both agree on this fact.
Thirdly I did supply RH readings and moisture content readings at the time of professional courtesy reoiling and I've documented this for company records as well. Quite simply put until the moisture problem has been dealt with there's nothing I can do.
I'm more than willing to go back afterwards and reoil. Lastly I never ever pick the finishing products. I apply samples and always always let the client decide.
I disagree with this review in its entirety and hope we can resolve this issue by working together in a professional manner.
All the best.
We love how our floor turned out as the transformation is outstanding The guys were great to deal with, hardworking and most of all took pride in their workmanship.
Thank you. It's our pleasure to work for great people
Michael first assessed the stains and other pet related damage on our 25 year old oak floori and gave us a thorough appraisal and options to repair and refinish the floor. His workmanship is impeccable, and we are very pleased with the outcome. The job was completed in a timely manner. Thank you Michael!
Thank you for the kind words.
