Our basement is finished and has a working bathroom. Just today we put in new windows. Moving forward...we would like to knock down 2 walls to create open concept in the basement. Modernize and make bathroom larger, adding a tiled glass shower. We would like to replace the existing floor with carpet and some wood flooring. There is also a brick "for show" fireplace that we would like removed. We would also like ceiling crown moulding and some electrical work done for light fixtures. All cabinetry required we have our own contact.
Hi, I live in Oakville and desperately need to finish my basement. I had always planned on finishing it myself as I have the skills and knowledge to do so. I am unable to now, as I acquired a brain injury in a motor vehicle accident and have limitations. I'm an avid watcher of Mike Holmes' series of shows and the thought of hiring a contractor absolutely terrifies me.
The basement is approx. 1000 sq ft, with basic finishes, no bathroom, but a soundproof room is a must. I can obtain most of the materials at cost. Here's what I have in mind: mold resistant blue or pink studs, closed cell 2lb sprayfoam to approx. R20, Dricore subfloor, laminate flooring, mold resistant drywall, Roxul insulation for ceiling. Soundproof room should be finished with 2 layers of 5/8 soundproofing drywall sandwiched with green glue in between and also soundproofing compound on ducts with Genie clips and U channel on ceiling.
I am looking for a contractor who is experienced, insured and works according to local building codes. All necessary permits need to be acquired. Payment plan should reflect work completed and not timeline. Last scheduled payment will be held back for 30 days.
Do you think I will have trouble finding someone for the job under these conditions?
Thanks
The house is 2.5 years old. Approximately 600 sq feet that would need to be framed, drywalled, electrical, lighting, carpeting. I would also like to do some custom cabinetry (shelves and area for tv) and have a fireplace installed (vent for the main floor fireplace is directly above where this one would go). Also, have roughed in plumbing for a washroom next to this area. I would also like a cost for that (sink, toilet, shower)

If you could give us an idea of costing and where we should look to find a good contractor. Ideally I would loved to have Bryan Beaulmer do the basement but i am sure that could be costly but are open to the idea.
