Charles did a spectacular job of renovating my bathroom in the basement. He took the time to find the right materials that would fit the site conditions and my preferrences. All along discussing what would be involved.
Charles does very meticulous work and takes the extra care to protect other areas outside of the renovation area. He is very good at finding the best deals on materials and he provides excellent advice on what is preferrable for the given installation. He communicates what he is doing every step of the work and there are no surprises. The finished product is professionally renovated bathroom that was executed on time and on budget.
Hi there!
I had a kitchen / dining ceiling removed, and re-installed.. and then I was left without any one to complete the mudding and taping. I found Charles on TrustedPros.. and WOW!! First he found the ceiling was installed wrong, so he did his mudding and taping in a way that corrected a bad install.. and my ceiling was fantastic!!!
Charles and his team are very hard working, very easy to work with, have excellent customer services skills, and have quite reasonable rates!!
I intend on bringing him back on my next reno project!! : )
Thanks Charles to you and your team!!
Over the past year Charles and team have completed several projects for us both large and small. From a new deck, new basement stairs, a complete overhaul of our garage, flooring and drywall installation to repairs and painting etc. This team does it all and for a reasonable price. We have a few more renovations in mind and have already talked to Charles about using his services once again. We are happy that we have found a contractor that we can trust for our renovation needs and would gladly recommend Charles.
Tom and Charles were fantastic! We have our Reno guys that we will call every time. We needed a new ceiling in an office in our basement due to new duct work. The ceiling was lowered and they drywalled around a window and the ducts. Pot lights were installed. It looks fantastic! They did an amazing job, worked hard, were honest and left the room clean and tidy. We are extremely happy with the work they did. Can't wait to do our next project with them.
Charles and Tom did a fantastic job building an outdoor bin with sliding doors to hold our recycling and garbage cans. What they built was better than we had imagined and they completed it all in one day. They had some very good suggestions when describing what I wanted and were very knowledgeable. Everything was completed right on budget and they were very friendly and easy to work with. I would highly recommend Charles and Tom for any work, and will definitely be hiring them again in the future.
I contacted Charles and Tom on Trustedpros.ca and I truly lucked in. Extremely courteous, diligent, knowledgeable in their field, exemplary in terms of communication explaining everything, expressed ideas in cost saving and gave suggestions for design which was truly impressive (check out my bathroom pics). Extremely flexible and adaptable to take direction or change of direction in design and constantly offer recommedations. They take no short cuts ensuring a high quality of work. They perfectly installed my vanity from ICA Furniture that came from the states which was a special order. The quote was extremely reasonable and remained with my budget. I had a timeframe to meet and they worked extremely long hours to accommodate my deadline. My next renovating job is my kitchen and I have informed Charles and Tom they are my Dream Team as I am extremely pleased and would trust no other
Unfortunately I am writing this review in absolute shock at the rude tone that was taken towards me by one of the partners in this company. Even though they were paid everything they asked for, they seem to view that they did me a favor and that I have no right to point out to them that things were not done to our satisfaction as their clients.
I don't know about average prices for various jobs. If I ask someone to do a job and they say "sure, I'll do it for X number of dollars", then I expect it to be done properly for that amount. If they say "it costs this much to do it properly and this much to do a sloppy job", then I have been warned. That is not what happened in this case. I asked for doors to be installed, they quoted a price, I said to go ahead, and there have been a couple of problems since then. The first issue was that the doors were jamming and were hard or impossible to lock. They were very courteous at THAT point and came and fixed the issue (locking being a pretty essential thing you need from your doors).
Subsequently, I noticed that the paint around the frames was pretty sloppy, patchy, and grubby, and that not all the doors were weatherstripped as I thought they would be; our tenants were complaining that their doors rattled and were drafty. So I wrote back to them (by this point I was desperate for the Door Saga to end), and this is the response I got, and I am QUOTING from the email so any future clients are aware of the attitude and tone they might get if they displease these contractors:
"For the weatherstripped again,we wont go there just to peel a pieces of paper of a a foam stripped and put it on the doors,I'm sure you can do it in less than 5 minute, but if you really wanted us to go install it,there will be a charge."
The counter-claim they came to me with is that the doors themselves were not ideal, which from my point of view is something the contractor is supposed to tell the client before they start work. If I knew all this, I'd be a contractor myself.
In addition, they were hired to paint an empty apartment, and they have accused me of asking them to do more work (i.e. actually washing nicotine-damaged walls before painting them) and not paying them for the extra work. To which my response is a simple "that is NOT correct". For the painting they were being paid BY THE DAY and I said very explicitly when I realized they thought they would paint without washing that I didn't mind if they took longer than the two days they originally quoted me, but that I preferred that the washing be done and that we would pay for it. In their final invoice they billed me for FOUR days of painting work, which I paid gladly.
Extremely unhappy with this. I had checked their reviews on here before agreeing to work with them and now I'm just upset.
I am very happy with the work Charles did on my bathroom ceiling and attic repair job (replace drywall, ceiling fan, vapour barrier, add more insulation in attic). I found him here on HandyCanadian.com, and I was a bit worried about hiring someone I'd never met in person. However, I trusted his excellent reviews here, and they were accurate.
The positives: he arrived on time, completed the job ahead of schedule, cleaned up really well, and provided a few extra material at no cost. He even painted the entire bathroom ceiling which I hadn't specified as part of the job and was planning to do myself, so it saved me the work. Those little extras were nice. Charles, is great at communicating, and replied quickly to all my messages.
The only cons I can think of is that originally the job was to be started in "a week and a half" but it turned into more like two weeks. Also, since the job was completed in just one day instead of two as originally estimated (based on my description in email) it meant that the quoted price I paid was probably a bit high for one day of work. However, working in a hot attic in summer is a pretty tough job, and the quality of work was really high, so I consider these cons very minor.
I would definitely use him again for any contracting work I have, and I will also be recommending him to family and friends.
Steve
I hired them to finish my basement recently. They did wonderful job within the time frame in a very tight budget. They cleaned up very well. When I found a few small defects after they finished the whole basement, I called them and they came right away to fix the problems in a couple of hours. I really appreciate their excellent work and I would recommend them to my friends without any hesitation.
