I had a friend of 30 years he does drywall tapeing . He had a heartattack so we agreed that i would learn his trade and work with him because he had a large contract about to start. ( 6 building 4 fl 20 unit per floor projected time line 3 years) in Milton Ontario. It was to have been ready for September of 2010. He assured me that when the job started that i would be working under him as we agreed, under a mutual partnership. We agreed on $20.00 to start. The weekend before the job started he came to my home and wanted me to have sex with him. I told him no, i then noticed that for about 3 day he did not call me and i know the job was to start at any time. To make a long story short he started the job without me and told me that his boss does not want to pay me $20. I asked him what does our agreement have to do with his boss seeing that he was a sub contractor. Anyhow when i ased him how much his boss was going to pay he told me $12.00 i asked for the phone # only to find out that his boss had a stroke and he and his side kick were now incharge. When i spoke to his side kick who has never seen me work he stated that he would advise his buddy to only pay me $12.00 for tapeing. I have put off so many of by bill with the assurance that this job was mine at the rate of $20.00. I am now faceing loosing my home car and credit rating. This guy has realy messed me up just because i would not have sex with him
Hi J- guy sounds like a real gem. Don't much think you'd want to work for a fella like this anyway. For what you can do about it- is there anyrhing in writing? Most tapers work by the sq. ft. or board foot, labour only. Some charge a little more for trim work (bulkheads, rounded corners, etc)- if you are a good/fast taper, approach the guy (or some other company) & see if you can do piece work. If you are good/fast, you should make a lot more than $20/hr. Good luck to you.
