Contractor disappeared for weeks, ignored us and now threatening to file a lien.

Hi all,

We hired a contractor and work started off good - we had a contract and paid him in instalments. The day after we made the 4th payment (totalling 90% of the total job) he started acting weird. He took all his machinery and stopped returning our calls for 2 weeks. We called, emailed and text but nothing. Finally he text back asking for the reminder but still did not come back. We declined, wanted the work done first (as per the contract). He then asked for 5% and we declined. After that no communication. Since we were on a time constraint, we hired another contract and payed more than what we owed just to get the job finished. Now after a week he stopped by, we told him we since he was not responding and did not complete the job in time we no longer require his services. He is now threatening to put a lien on the house, can someone assist? Or point us to a lawyer that can help?

Thank you.

Sounds like a bluff to me, putting a lean on a property requires time effort and money and its not a sure thing, if it happens you can have it removed for a few hundred by a lawyer. Just wait and see what he does, have you searched him on the BBB? he may have a history of unhappy clients.

Don't sweat it, talk is cheap, my opinion is you won't hear from him again.

Good luck.
