I bought a new townhouse and I am interested in adding a door from the house to the garage. I take possession on Jan 3. So it is a little early still but I am trying to figure out my options.
There was an optional door on the builders plans but I think the location would need to be slightly different on the builder's plans. I am thinking that it would need to be across from the closet in the front hall which would have it at the very back of the garage which would require a few stairs (maybe 3-5) but would hopefully allow for my car to still be parked in the garage.
Obviously for a full quote, a site visit and actual measurements etc. would be needed. But I am trying to get an idea of general cost and what this project would entail in terms of time, budget, etc. Thanks.
Hi Karen;
Usually, builders charge more than other contractors because they have more overhead costs.
Pricing depends on type of door, staircase and the wall is a load bearing wall or not.

$1,300.00 that would include a steel door a door closer and any necessary platform and stairs built out of spruce.
Hi there....
Sorry for the late reply.
If you are not using the original location into the garage, which may/or may not be framed, a new door has to be framed and headered.
Also, the door should be fire-rated and have a doorcloser and lockset
Do the steps need a platform ?
For sure they need a railing.
Figure on $2,100.00
Hope this helps.
