Do I need a permit to repair my porch but keep the original roof in Toronto? Keep the same size as the original but would like to cover it.
I'm unclear what you need. Do you need to cover your deck or do you have an existing roof?
Hi Judy, I encountered a similar situation as this earlier this fall. I called the city and it was a hard yes, I do need a permit. There's a very good chance you need one but a quick call to your local bylaw office won't hurt.
If it's just repairing the deck, I don't think that you would need permit but check with your local.
District of your city.
If you are to add roof to your deck , then you will need to have a permit
If you take your deck off of your house and rebuild it , you will need a permit
But if you're just repairing the deck a couple of spots here and there , you don't need a permit not where I am
Hey Judy,
I don't think you'll need a permit to do what you're planning on doing. I would need some information about the project you're looking to do. But here are some things to keep in mind.
1. as long as you are not any plumbing or HVAC and are not planning to heat the room, you will be OK to do without a permit
2. if you are not altering the structure like the roof post or the footings, you should be OK to do without a permit
Hope that answers your question. Reach out to us if you have any more questions.
Thanks
Joe.
You do not need a permit to make repairs or even remodels to an "existing" structure, if it remains exactly the same. The minute you change structure, alter any adjoining structure or build a "new" one you need a permit. That being said be careful who you hire, permits can guarantee you get it done properly by a professional.
