Hello,

Planning a new house build and am considering planked walls instead of drywall. Does firecode still require drywall underneath the 1x6 planks?

Thank you in advance. :)

Yes you still need drywall under your planks.

Thank you. Does it have to tapped and mudded as well?

Call your local town office and ask the permit/building department to be certain. But with that in mind, log homes are built everyday! without any drywall.

Yes it needs to be fire taped. Which is fire rated tape and one coat of mud. This doesn't need to be real fancy as you will be covering it up.
