I have a huge double sided fireplace dividing two living rooms. How can I tell if the fireplace is load bearing and what are the risks by removing it?
This particular fireplace is likely NOT load bearing. To be sure, you would have to take down the drywall(even just a section) surrounding the chase .Only then would you be able to be sure. Although it looks to be an exhaust chase frame and drywalled in. Hopefully that helps.
It is highly unlikely that a fire place would be load bearing. From the pics there is no signs that it is supporting. If uncertain then get a reliable contractor in. As long as removal is done correctly there is no risk. Your vapour barrier must be reseated and be sure the roof is properly patched.
Fireplaces are never load bearing unless a 11th century castle ;) yours can easily just be demolition, flue hopefully is pipe otherwise you will have a fair bit of removal as well as all the patchwork to ceiling, roof after. Get a professional who know what they are doing as a previous reply mentioned vapor barrier etc. You want the patch up done right to the roofing materials.
