Garage floor water drainage

I have a 4 year old house with an attached garage. The garage floor has the correct slope (higher in rear of garage slopping towards the front of garage). I live in Edmonton so the snow melt in the garage is always a challenge to keep the water from pooling by the garage door. I am considering cutting the slab and installing a trench and catch basin system. This way I will control the water run off. The catch basins won't drain anywhere. I will simply scoop out the water if they fill up.

Any thoughts on doing this? Or is there a better way?

I would not do that unless you can install a sump pump or have the water drain away out of the catch basin. You may end up making it worse by gathering even more water and allowing it to get under your floor slab or foundation. Any way of surface sloping to direct it away from the door?

Thanks for the reply Herbert. The water would collect in the catch basin and I would manually drain the basin. It wouldn't drain under the slab. Does this make sense?

I can completely understand why you want to do this and is a great idea however you need to get rid of the water. What if you forget to clean it out , what happens when the water freezes again?

Have the drain inside the garage door so that it's out of the weather but you must drain it somewhere. Ideally under ground into the house where it's warm. From there into the city drain if they will allow it or to a simp pump that will pump it outside to the lawn. You want the pump and any traps to be inside so they won't freeze.

Thanks for the reply James. I live on an acreage so draining to a sewer system is not possible and draining to my septic field isn't an option because of the location to the holding tank. Draining to the outside of the garage is an option but I would rather simply clean out the drain whenever it is full. It is a heated garage so no risk of freeze-up. I had a similar drainage at a prior residence and cleaning out the drain wasn't an issue. Just trying to find a reputable contractor in the Edmonton area that can do this type of concrete work.
