Posted this a few years ago and I am just wondering if anything has changed.
First a little background. I have been volunteering for a long time and when we moved to Newmarket I couldn't get back to Scarborough very easily to continue there. I missed volunteering so I looked into Habitat for Humanity and decided to do it.
Today we finished up my 8th build and I got to watch the 5 and 7 year old kids spin around with their arms out, enjoying their new home that they have been hearing about for months! Can't wait for the next build to start so I can see that again at the end.
I seemed a little different this time because it was tougher to get volunteers. They would sign up and no show or we would not get a full crew on some days. I'm getting the feeling that people (specifically younger ones) are becoming even more self absorbed.
Anyway, volunteering at Habitat is what I choose to do and I am just wondering what others are doing. Last time I asked the question I got 20 great coast to coast stories back and on this crummy day in January I would love to start hearing some more.
Back to the topic -
The question is - if you are giving back in your community, what are you doing?
The challenge is - if you aren't currently giving back, why not find something?
Best regards to everyone out there.

Hey Jim... H4H is a great organization. I was instrumental in getting our local affiliate started many years ago. In addition to building a number of houses each year, 2015 saw the opening of a second ReStore. While I don't work with them any longer, I am still a strong supporter.
Personally (my new project) I am working with a citizens group for the planning of the 150th Anniversary of Canada Celebrations (2017). Our company does donate time, materials and effort to other organizations in the community.
Great Topic!!!
