Good Contractor, Bad contractor - you decide

I had a house re-done after the fire. For this job I hired Kingdom Constructions company.

They seamed like very nice guys, definitely talking the talk. The job was done, with slight delay, but not bad (timewise). Towards the end of the project, they started working in a rush, probably picked some other contact, but at the cost of my quality.

After I have accepted the job, I started seeing all little shortcuts they took and defects or unfinished places.

It's only been 5 months and I'm thinking of redoing all floors in my house, as the 12mm floating that they put already start seeing cracks in most of joints between pieces. One of walls got a crack on a joint of drywalls. Long story short many.... things were done to withstand the first verification only. I've been trying to call them, he promised to come and fix the wall as soon as he gets back from Ontario. So far it's been a month and a half. As for the floors, I don't even think they are fixable, as even initially when I saw one gap, they had hard time trying to fix it, but others they said was normal. So, after all you decide GOOD or BAD, but I definitely would like to hear other people's opinion on this matter

Hi maybe they did not use the right materials for your job and maybe they used the cheaper end stuff. I don't know what you paid but it sounds like a problem waiting to happen Maybe you should have some quality contractors come take a look. If they disappeared they will not be back. They might just have changed there number or something like that. If you know the contractors names you can probably find out if they own another company or not. If they where planning on leaving anyway. I am sorry but you have been had!

Hi Dmitri,

No question....bad! At the very least he completed the job and didn't take off with your money like so many others I've heard about. He obviously is not concerned about his repuation at all. His workmanship is shotty to put it mildly and he clearly was either inexperienced or used unqualified cheap labour and materials. I understand the odd nail pop but all the joints, and your floors? Unbelievable. Did you check referances prior to hiring him and how long has his company been operating? In my opinion, you will not see this GC come back to repair and quite frankly why would you want him back. Asside from the obvious money issue.....he didn't do it properly in the first place, it is unlikely he will be able to fix it. It's truly a horrible situation to be in and they didn't desearve your trust or money. I wish you the best of luck getting your repairs completed.

Thank you guys, as I was not sure what is the mesure of success at this point. I don't want to say bad things as they are seamed to be nice guys - personality wise, however, it looks like you just confirming my point. Most probably, I will live throught this winter and put a project of changing floors for sure.

Thank you again.

Dmitri

I finally got them to come and fix the crack. They were out of town doing long term project.

So, the crack on the wall was fixed, and they promissed to check on how they will be able to fix the foors. So, I'm one step further,

The rest is up to you - you decide Good or Bad. It nearly toook 6 months to get them to come for 20 minutes, stil they came.
