Just wanted to let people know that if they are upgrading their windows, doors, heating, ventilation, insulation, hot water or other energy effcieincy related items, there are both prrovincial and federal grants of more than $5000 available. B.C. owners and in other provinces can check out the http://www.oee.nrcan.gc.ca/residential/personal/home-improvement.cfm?attr=0 website
So I have to pay the inspector to come and evaluate my home pay to make the upgrades then pay the inspector to come back and re-evaluate my home and then if all is well and my home meets the standards I may get up to 5000 dollars back ummmm!!
The grant chart is clearly laid out and is based on what products you install so there is no uncertainty about whether or not you'll receive money back. For example, if you install an Energy Star rated air source heat pump with a variable speed motor, you'll receive $1840 in grant money. The cost for the first two hour consultation with an objective energy expert, energy modelling of your home and customized retrofit plan is ~$150 which is then rebated back to you when you complete the program. The cost for the follow up visit is also ~$150 - your net cost - at which time advisors complete the paperwork for you and provide your home with an EnerGuide rating - an important tool for increasing the resale value of your home.
