I live in update NY and the common wall between the Garage and one of the rooms in the house is not insulated. Instead of ripping down the sheetrock from inside I was planning on doing this from the garage.
My question what is the best way to insulate the wall so that I can prevent moisture/ mold on the fiberglass? I will not be installing from the house and only the garage side. Will the paper or foil from the garage side be enough or should I try and install a moister barrier from within the suds?
Hi Adam,
The moisture barrier needs to be installed against the warm side the room. In your case, the interior wall. I understand the desire to not want to disturb the inside of your home so, two options:
1 - place vapour barrier inside each wall cavity and make sure all gaps are sealed.
2 - better option - spray foam does not require a vapour barrier. You can spray each cavity to provide best results.
Hope that helps.

Hi concerning insulation from the garage side I strongly recommend you call a sprayfoam company and have them spray in 2 lb sprayfoam this has a built-in vapor barrier so it's all done in one process. Being at your garage sprayfoam is the best way to insulate and stop seal fumes from getting in the house and is highly recommended. Hope this helps you out
