Someone did a reno in the home I just bought and removed a bearing wall approximately 120 inches long. I now have to repair this with a support beam and want to know what is the approximate cost of installing a 12 to 13 foot support beam in the ceiling were the load bearing wall was? The wall that was removed was on the main floor and the beam is needed to support the joists in the attic which were on the wall.
Thanks
Could you please add more details? Is it on the main floor or is it the basement?
Main floor would be an L.V.L and basement would be a I-beam unless it around the staircase where it could be a triple 2 10.
Hi There,
The best way to do it is with structural designers professional help so there is no guess work. We offer that service to our clients and once its done you do not have to worry as its a stamped drawing so down the road something unforeseen happens your insurance will ask for that paper and if its not there they might not honour the claim.
The structural service with stamp drawing would be 1250 ( one site visit included) + cost of beam on main floor would be 1500 material and labour + what ever needs to be done in basement will be above, it depending on scope of work and condition of basement.
Hope that helps.
This is a rather simple project, however it does require a permit with drawings and engineer specifications. There are many contributing factors with a project like this so a little more detail would be required to provide relevant estimates. Typically we recommend an initial assessment.
Such job will cost you 4-5K including the LVL beams.
Drawings and permits it will cost you another $1500.
