What are the options re material to replace a 5x8 pressure-treated porch with 4-4' steps?
The pre-cast concrete that we've seen looks cheap, natural stone is likely too heavy, and expensive. Is there anything else or is it worth considering returning to a wood option, possibly cedar next time?
The house is a cottage style with gray aluminum siding, probably 60-70 years old. (The front door and pergola over the existing porch also need to be replaced.)
Your options are endless. From the cheapest, wood (pressure treated, cedar and composite), precast concrete, landscape blocks, poured concrete.
You can also decorate the pre-cast and poured concrete, with stone, tiles or a decorative cement product. It really depends on your budget and the look you are after.
Costs will range from $1500- $10,000.
I like the landscape stone idea. There is no concrete work and i think it would look good with your cottage home. Also price effective. maybe carry the look with the stone work around a front garden. Nice curb appeal.
Good luck

The most attractive and economical step and landing replacement would be a coloured precast paving stone step system. This can also include a matching sidewalk up to the steps and landing. Most landscape contractors can do this work.
