In April of 2018 I hired a architect / contractor to make plans to demolish my garage, rebuild it with a 600 sq foot apartment on a second level. I have paid out $15, 928 to date to cover the architects services, to file forms with payment to the city. On Friday I made a call to the City Building & Safety to ask questions. To my surprise I was informed that the only permit which has been filed and paid, $230.00, is for the demo permit of the garage. I double check this information by calling twice and going on the website and printed the permit & inspection report.
My question at this point am I in my right to ask for all of the completed architect plans for his service and a refund of $10,197.04 which has not been paid to the city, or should I go directly to the licensing office and file a complaint?
It would be best if you contacted the person, if he/she refused to comply then you'll take it to the next level.
Most of the cost the architect or engineer charge it goes against producing a complete set of the permit drawings, include all architectural, mechanical, structural and HVAC design. Cit fees are always not much. the best thing to do is to call the person in charge and try to understand what's going on before escalating the issue.
