Hey all
I'm planning to renovate my garage to increase the space inside. While renovating, we want to shift all the belongings to any other place, so I decided to dump some unwanted and unused items to increase the space. I've googled for any bin service and found this garbage bin rental service, and I hired them for the junk removal. While renovating, I have also planned to change the wiring and plumbing of the garage. Should I need any permits before heading to it? I have planned the budget below $5,000. If so, how much should I pay for the permit?
To conform to your local bylaws, you always need a permit. They usually cost $50-100.
Your question is unclear. How do you gain space with a renovation? Are you lifting up the garage and adding vertical space? If so you will likely need a building permit and to ensure that development regulations are conformed with (i.e. height restrictions). In Alberta certain minor projects (typically less than $5,000 in value) may be allowed without permits; however all Codes still need to be complied with including development regs. If you do require permits it would certainly be the minimum fee for building, plumbing, electrical, etc.
