My house is a 1 1/2 storey clapboard house. The existing detached garage is leaning and is rotten at the back so needs to be replaced. The new garage needs to complement the house. I would like to find a wood siding solution that is more cost effective than repeating the clapboard on the house.
Jane,
I would suggest that you visit a major siding company. There are several Vinyl products that may match the colours of your existing building. Major players in teh Vinyl siding game are: Kaycan, Gentek, Royal, and Mitten. They can certainly provide you with some options. The cost is dependent on the quality of siding but should be less and your clapboard. I am hesitant to suggest Home Depot of similar retail outlets only because their staff have limited knowledge and they tend to "push" their products. I perfer to compare such items myself.
Hope this helps.

Hi there,
James Hardie carries a cement fiber board that is mold and water resistant. It comes either pre-painted or you can paint. They have many different styles of clad board and siding. We have used there products and have had great success with them. Try your local supplier such as Rona...they carry it there.
Thank you
Hi Jane,
Using Hardie board is the way to go. Tear down the old garage, pour a new floating concrete pad, and build a new garage using this hardie board, you wont be disappointed. My sub-contractor that i use has been installing this product for several years.
If your looking for a contractor to take on this new garage, give me a call.
Cheers
