Joe appeared to be very honest and professional when I first met him. He came to do an estimate promptly and gave a reasonable price. I hired him and gave him a deposit of half the cost. After numerous excuses of family emergencies and illness as well as problems with the supplier Joe still had not even started the job 3 months later. I decided to hire another contractor and requested my deposit back. Joe agreed to return it immediately however after 2 months I still did not receive anything. I proposed a payment plan of $100 a month and Joe accepted. As of this day he is 3 weeks late with the first payment. I do not recommend this company nor Joe as he does not do the work and takes your money. He is not to be trusted.
We hired TRU-PRO RENOS to replace old deck with new composite deck with 3 steps and railing and some other small deck related work. As the existing deck framing was good we agreed it can be reused and just add to existing structure joist at 12 inch centers.
I paid a deposit of 25% - $3288.50 on April 23, 2018. Joe said it will take him around 3 weeks to do this job and he always will be on the site to do or supervise the job.
He sent two young guys and they started the job: added joist at 12 inch centers, replaced two posts and digged 3 holes to support stairs. Joe was not on the site when they were doing work. He did not do any work except one time when he pour concrete for 3 posts to support stairs.
He did not finish job as promised. When I came back home from a hospital after a planned surgery on May 26, he waited for me to ask for more money for materials, composite decking boards and railings. I wrote him another cheque for $5000 that was in total around 65% of the whole project cost. He promised to bring materials next week to finish the job.
I did not hear from him for some time, that's when I started worried and tried to call him. Finally he responded and said that he messed ordering materials and had to return it paying $2700 restocking fees. He asked me for additional money of $2400. I did not want to pay for his mistakes. He asked me what I want to do: him to finish the job or he can refund me just $2500. I asked him to finish the job. That was not fair because according to his own estimates he finished just around 25% of the job and wanted to take around 45% of the whole project cost. He did not supply/install decking boards, railings. He just did preparation work. Also looks like he did not know how to do stairs, because after he poured concrete and did 3 posts for stairs, he send his guy to build some small deck extension for stairs that was not needed if he did it correct.
He left not finishing the deck.
3 months later he sent me an invoice for $5152.80, where he significantly increased price for work that was done and he added work that he did not do. Instead of 3 posts for stairs in the invoice he mentioned 4 posts.
So far he did not refunded us any money.
Joe is very unprofessional, not trustworthy. He promised a lot, but was not able to keep his promises.
We highly DO NOT recommend Joe and his TRU-PRO RENOS.
This is the second time I am writing a review on Joe from Tru-Pro. The first review I removed out of good faith due to a promise from the Contractor Joe Giannini that we would have our deposit of $1000 on Sept 19. We have not received our deposit back and the excuse this time was he was sick. We have left a VM and a text since Sept 19 only to be ignored.
We hired Joe in Aug to renovate our bathroom, contract signed and $1000 deposit given. Joe extended the agreed upon start date by a week due to a family emergency.and never showed up on the 'new' start date to start the reno. We no longer felt comfortable with Joe and his services and requested to dissolve the contract and have our deposit returned. For a month when we do hear from Joe, it is excuse after excuse as to why he has not given our money back.
If you do hire Tru-Pro, do not give him a deposit. Honest and reputable contractors do not ask for one until the work has started.
Joe did a fantastic job on my decks. He changed the rotted boards and stained the decks. Looks brand new. He also installed new sink and marble bathroom vanity top. This is the 2nd time I have hired Joe.
