I am thinking of changing careers and have almost 20 years in the automation industry. I've been looking through job postings but can't find a renovation company that will take on someone with no experience in the renovation/construction industry, other than projects done around my house and family members'. I am 42, with a few years experience with a leadership role. I am dedicated and serious about the work that I do no matter what it is.
Looking for some direction or advice. Much appreciated for any feedback.
There are many trades to choose from And if I had to start from scratch I would start in carpentry there you will learn basic knowledge of building
There are many carpenters that want ppl to join there team.
I do agree there are some trades that are more easier to get into however this is tricky.
In the construction industry it is fast pace, high budget and high risk. And without experience or formal education, you are asking for someone to spend time and money to train you, which will slow things down and incurring extra expenses for the company.
If any company really are going to hire you, be prepare that you are likely going to be tasked with the most general of general labor to start. Which mean you must be ok to work on a low wage until you have enough experience to demand more money..
Is that something you willing to do? On top of that. As most of the job are skill trade, and without the proper skill you have limited work that you could work on, that will translate to unknown in terms of job security.
If after read all of those hurtle and you still interested.. I would suggest you look for a company that give part time works or company that also could also use your existing skill.
