Cost to take out and replace a bathtub surrounding tile?

Tub has a little rust spot near the drain and the finish is wearing. I'd like to replace it but need the plumbing updated it has two taps now. The tile around the tub is in bad shape near the taps. I had it regrouted but found out that the workman just put new grout on top of old grout to fill in where it had eroded. Result=mess!

Only looking for cost right now.

Thanks

Hi Dorothy,

Replacing the tile, tub and plumbing could cost you between $1000 and $3000, depending on the materials you choose. HOWEVER, there is usually more hidden damage and rot around the old tub. More often than not, the tub area needs to be reframed and drywalled. Drain pipes and water lines might also need to be upgraded. These are possible added costs. Average cost (with standard materials and normal damage) will be close to $2000.

Hi Dorothy,

Paul from Du-al construction here. Depends on the fixtures and tile you use. Cheapest possibility $1500 plus tax and thats if we dont find problems in the walls. Not to scare you but contractors always have to warn you about things they can't see. Chances are, there wont be any surprises.

Cost depends on depth of work required. Basic cost of removal and disposal of tub, tile and garbage count on 1000.00. New tub and faucet install by qualified plumber will probably run 600.00 for labor plus cost of tub and new plumbing parts. Retiling count on 6$ a square foot labor. That's a rough idea.

$1850 to replace your tub, tile and taps. Tub, taps & tile extra.

Thanks,

Melissa

Hey, Dorothy,

I am surprised by the replies to your posting. Have you checked out the listings of the people that have answered you. Plumbers charge $1,000.00 to change a tub, if other plumbing is involved that is an extra. As for re-doing your tub surround (removing the drywall and tile) then installing new. There are way better products on the market besides green or blue drywall. We use a product called Ditra, its made by a company called Schluter......google them.

Schluter products are the very best on the market, all of my guys are Schluter Certified and we are a fully Lic. and Insured "SMALL COMPANY" if you go with Ditra the cost of re-doing your tub-surround would be between 2-3 thousand.
