I own a second home I'm thinking of tearing down and rebuilding. I'd like to know the construction costs related to demolition, new foundation, rough and finishing. Basically new construction costs.
Thank you,
Steve
Steve,
The only answer that I can give you to this question is that it costs about 10,000 to knock a house down and haul it to the dump.
Your question about how much it costs to build a house is the equivalent to asking someone how much a new car will cost.
If you want to know how much a new home costs you are going to have to get plans drawn first.
I have built homes from 200 dollars a sqft to 650 a sqft.
Start with the plans, then it starts to become possible to answer your questions.

Steve,
I agree with Rob. The demolition will vary depending on what has to be done, access, and other factors. The rebuild also depends on what the property is like before you build and the size. One story or two, type of foundation, attached garage, quality of material, extras (ie built in surround sound, fireplace, security systems, etc.). Best to look at the plans you like and work from there.
Consider what you want for quality (taps, toilets, showers, etc.) and price out as much as you can. The basic house can be estimated by several home improvement store who offer the service. You don't have to buy from them but it would provide you with a basis from which to budget.
Take your time and get what you want, not just a house, but your home.

Mark
