Budget 500k is this reasonable to build this house in rural Ottawa

Hi,

Even with mid grade finishes. If you want well built, you are around 570,000 too 600,000.

That is doing everything very well.

Agree with James. For what you're looking to build you're looking at between $570,000-$600,000 to finish.

You can mitigate costs if there are things you/family, who will volunteer their time, can complete on the fijishing stages (trim work, painting, flooring potentially, mudding & taping drywall/sanding).

If that's not possible then, unfortunately your budget won't work.

I have seen bids recently to build a very similar home here in BC, difference was this was replacement from fire and the home had some living area in the attic space, two bedrooms and a bath as well some dormers in the roof. It had a 5 ft crawl space and mid level finishes with 2 fire places and the RCV(replacement cost value) ranged from 640k to 760K not including the cost to removal the existing home just for the rebuild, so I think you are in range.Best of luck
