I am always having this question myself, here is the scenario, I want to remove the drywall of one of the rooms, if I am hiring contractor to just simply do this, does he need WSIB and liability insurance? since this work is fairly simple, maybe just cost hundreds of bucks, I am not sure if we need to bother to check that.
Another question is, if yes, how can we verify their WSIB and liability insurance? See if it is valid.
Thanks a lot.
Hi Allen,
Any good reliable contractor will have proof of his Liability and WSIB and it shouldnt take much effort for them to prove it at all. As per your question for liability even if its for a small drywall job it always good to have in case.
I agree. You should have WSIB even for the smallest of jobs.
If he gets hurt on your property and is unable to work. He will have no choice but to go after your home insurance.
A contractor is not required to have wsib on himself but will need it for any workers he employs. He is required to have liability insurance and you can verify that by his insurance certificate. hope that helps you out. Over and out Jeff

thank you so much guys. This is really helpful!
You have the right to ask even if it's small job but sometimes people don't want too much stress for such small jobs
However as some other contractor mentioned, that the owner of the company it might not need a WSIB for himself
Easy to verify by just calling the number on papers and ask about the validity
