Does the framer need a licence to do our addition to our house? Its actually a carport we are enclosing for more living space.
We are in the city of Surrey, BC.
Thanks
It really depends on your municipality, your mother could frame your addition, you must have a licence for electrical and plumbing, most municipalities
dont care who framed it as long as it passes building code and inspection
I would recommend you get a licensed Carpenter framer however many framers do not have a license with the city or municipality. As long as you get a building permit from your municipality before you start and it passes framing inspection you'll be good to go. I would recommend you calling City Hall and ask them the requirements. Check his references in person if you're concerned. Hope this helps you out. Jeff
A direct family member is allowed to but it must meet building code standards. If you are hiring someone, they should be licensed or the onus is on you for any errors or workmanship. ALso check on WCB coverage.
