I am stuck with a careless contractor. He is making my concrete sidewalks patio and porch. Yesterday they were pouring concrete. I noticed that they are not putting expansion joints. I asked them and then they just shoved in the four inches foam expansion joint into six inches thick sidewalk. And even out of that four inches the two inches are out.
Then I checked the other sidewalk and the patio, but the concrete is touching the house wall. I asked if he put expansion joint there. He said yes and just the top thin layer of cement is touching the wall and there is expansion joint foam is under that. I do not trust him.
Please give some suggestions. If the thickness of sidewalk is 6 inches then the expansion joint has to be the same width?? I don't want to deal with them anymore. Can I just rent a concrete grinder and grind the half inch thick and 6 inch deep space for expansion joints ???
Please help.
Yes, the expansion joint material needs to be the full depth of slab. Sawcutting it along side of house might be a pain. Tell the contractor to fix it before you sign off on it.
Sorry to say it but sounds like the guy is a bit of a crook if you ask me.
He is crook. I paid $2000 advance for a $6500 job. after one day he asked me for $4000 more. I said I will pay when you are done. He said on then we will pickup our equipment and go. Then I had to pay $3500 ! then he just took two days off without even telling me. He doesn't return calls and doesn't respond to text messages. He left his equipment and the garbage on my front yard.
