I am thinking of buying a 21yrs house old house 3400sqf with 4br and 4bth, it is well kept, well maintained but a bit outdated to me, I would like to update it to become contemporary looking (updated floor, moldings, especially the kitchen and bathrooms) and finished the basement. basement is just plain linoleum floor and white walls with washroom. What kind of budget should I be looking at? I just want to know if it is better to buy a newer house, smaller but updated.

An idea of what the cost to remodel a house this size, interior only..

question whether to buy an older/bigger house but a bit updated or newer/smaller but updated house

Hi my name is VICKRAM from VS Kitchen & Bath, for a house this size updating the main floor will cost roughly $70,000-$120,000. The basement will cost about $40,000-$50,000. By updating it you will get exactly what you want and not have something someone else dreamed.but it's all up to you and your budget. Thank you

Hi

The best idea is to purchase the outdated bigger house then do what you want. It's hard to budget such project because it's all about how much work and how much quality you are looking for however you can budget $200K for such complete remodeling for a house in that size.

Buying an older house and remodeling can often be a better more financially prudent option if you have the patience and stomach for a renovation project. For a house this size, you should budget between $75K and $125K for a complete remodel. Having said that, that pricing can often be scaled back depending on the exact scope of work. That range would include things like: New Washrooms, New Kitchen, New Flooring throughout, new cabinets throughout, new lighting, new plumbing fixtures, painting and finishes. Hope this helps.
