I had a quote from someone for tuck pointing, and they offered an alternative for the bricks. They said they could use a combination of fiberglass/epoxy/concrete instead of brick to fix the chimney, and it would be about half the cost. Has anyone heard of such a thing?
As long as the substrate(the bricks)is suitable and they prepare it properly , this can be a suitable solution . Although more often then not these contractors seem to just smear their epoxy over everything (moss, dirt , etc) and this ends up cracking , letting in moisture.
Just do you due diligence on the contractor and make sure they are a reputable company with a long standing reputation. I hope this helps
