Using screws for framing non-loadbearing walls

I'm putting up 2x4 partitions (16" spacing) in my basement that I'm finishing. I've been using 3" framing screws, but I've heard some inspectors prefer nails to be used instead. Is there any code article that would prevent / allow this in case I get questioned? Have you ever had issues with screwed partitions passing inspection? Thanks!

Yes screws can be used. It would only be an issue if it was a structural wall.

No, you can use either however I would suggest fastening the bottom of your walls to the concrete as well using a concrete fastener or ramset every 4'-0"

Never had a problem

using screws. Some support structures such as roof joists etc are better with glue and nails.

Hope this helps.

Ask your local Building inspector or city hall. Grk fasteners are structural screws. Some municipalities you to frame not using standard screws but nails or structural screws. Just make a quick phone call and ask.
