We have just had a concrete wheelchair ramp poured but the contractor did not want to colour it so he suggested we coat it ourselves with a durock finish. It is very pale and boring and would look better with a coloured pattern finish applied.
It has cost us a lot already so I would like to get an idea of the cost per square foot before I go ahead.
I personally wouldn't apply a coating. With our Canadian winters they can be more work than they're worth. If you're happy with the texture, I would consider just having a stain applied. This will reduce your overall maintenance costs and is a much more cost effective option.
I would recommend a 2 inch top coat of mortar mix properly applied over a roll on acrylic bonding agent. You can add color and give it a beautiful stamped slate finish for around 15.00 per sq. ft.
We usually charge $14/sq ft to stain it. A pattern finish would cost $18 sq ft.
