20 year old house, has an old stone foundation and the floors are all uneven and bulging in areas,
don't want a finished basement used only for storage and such, would like to make it energy efficient and stop rodents? get those now and again.
Wondering what kind of work would be involved and the costs.
I require someone to cut and install wainscotting/panelling in the basement. The walls are framed, insulated and vapor barrier in place. Materials will be supplied and on site. My budget for labor is $1200.00.
NOTE: Estmated cost of materials is $600.00, if you can get a contractor's rate the difference between the actual retail price and contractors' rate will be yours.
Estimated time to complete is 2-3 days. I would like this completed before Thanksgiving.
At this time an on line estimate only please.

Our home was built in 1950. We have done a lot of upgrades on the main floor, windows, faccia and soffits, new kitchen, etc., but our basement has been a project that we have feared and put on hold for 24 years! There are 4 of us living here, my husband and myself, and our 2 sons, 20 and 17 years, and with the exception of our oldest son having his bedroom downstairs, we have mostly lived on our main floor level, with only 1 bathroom for 4 of us!
Over the years my husband has started the basement project, then stalled as I believe it may be too large a project for him to wrap his head around. There is plenty of space to work with downstairs but the previous owner didn't use that space wisely so there is a lot of wasted space, everything must be torn out and rebuilt starting with the insulation.
We are willing to do the demolition and removal then the finishing i.e. paint, carpet, etc. so require someone to build and install bathroom pieces i.e. shower, sink, toilet.
I have created blueprints for what I believe would be the most logical use of the space and would provide us with a large living area, bathroom, storage, and bedroom, just by cutting our huge laundry room in half! The duct work is also very old and large and needs to be redone. I think some pipes may have to be moved to accomodate the bathroom area. Plumbing is located right at the proposed bathroom area. I would also like to remove the wall that runs down beside the stairs from the back entrance and put in a railing to open up the basement. Right now there is a useless foyer area at the bottom of the stairs that serves no purpose and takes up a lot of room.
Our home is small so over the years we have had to limit our entertaining to a minimum few people as we didn't have the basement space to entertain. Next year is a very special year for our family, our oldest son turns 21, our younger son turns 18, my husband will be 50 (yikes!), and it's our 25th anniversary, so I would just love to be able to entertain in a nice new spacious basement area!
Thank you for your help!!!!!!
Laura.
P.S. Either email me or call on my mobile. My husband doesn't know what I'm up to! But no worries, I'm sure he'll absolutely welcome this!
Looking at building a finished basement in an existing 750 Sq ft home.

900 square foot bungalow. About 600 sq ft of the area needs finishing. Basement is currently wide open with insulated walls & paneling. Looking for bedroom to be added, living space for tv, music. Close in laundry area. {ceiling left open in laundry area} No bathroom work as there is currently a finished bathroom. Walls to be drywalled. Drop ceiling installed, flooring, trim
I am the home owner
It's a 833 square foot basement which is finished. It has an old brick fireplace that i want removed, same with wood paneling on the walls. There is an office in rear of basement tthat I want removed ( wall torn out) to open it up. I want a Home theatre and dry or wet bar(depending on cost differential). The ceiling can stay the same. And the carpet can stay.
Hi there,
My husband and I are looking to have our basement done. It's current bare walls, needs to be framed, have dry wall put up, bathroom done etc. We're hoping to have someone come by and give us a quote.
Let me know when you're available.
Thank you.
Chantel
Need basement done. Walls re drywalled, cealing redone, new lighting, office door closed off and office opened into main area. Bar area ripped out and turned into built in storage area, bar put along wall, built ins for TV wall. We would like the stairs going to the basement to be opened at the top (not quite sure yet how we will do this).
Built house two years ago. kensington homes built it and it is south hampton style home (cab over). approximately 950 sq feet to be developed in the basement. Walls are insulated but basement needs to be framed, dry walled, taped, electrical done, ceiling, lighting, carpet, bedroom and bathroom framed, and bathroom completed. Want the best looking basement for the lowest price.
My husband and I just bought a 1552 square foot two-story house in Sage Creek. The house was built in 2009. The basement is currently framed in for extra bedroom, rec room and bath, but does not have any flooring, dry wall, ceiling, or bathroom fixtures. I would like to know how much it might cost to finish the basement, and what kind of a time line we would require. We move in May long weekend, and would ideally like to have the project finished within the first year.
Demo & Renovate Basement
Home built 1946 approx 1100 sq ft Rec Room 26'x15'
Currently walls have different finishing: Stucco, Brick, Flat Stone, Panelling & Carpeting
To be done electrical, plumbing, gas lines, move water meter, reconfigure laundry area, remove all wall finishing to studs, reinsulated, drywall, replace 3 windows, proper window wells needed, replace bathroom fixtures, lighting, etc.
The house was built in '67. The basement will be gutted so we can startt fresh. The walls are not insulated and I've been told foam insulation would be our best bet since the framing is not thick enough to house regular insulation. The ceiling needs updating and is currently a foam like tile. The cement floor is very uneven near the sump pump and needs to be leveled. We would like to avoid sub flooring to allow for maximum height. We plan to add a shower/tub to the bathroom. We have an idea of where we would like to add new walls but require assurance from a proffesional that the desired placement is appropriate. The wiring in the house is quite bizarre and may need alot of work. We have an electrician who has already worked on our house before. Wewould like to add pot lighting since it is currently quite dark down there.
- remove existing 4' exterior drywall
- restud exterior walls
- replace insulation
- vapour barrier
- redrywall with 8' sheets
- tape and paint
- wall with door between living space and utility room
- T-bar ceiling in living space only
- close up stairs
- vinyl flooring in utility room
- carpet down the stairs and in living space
- install 5- 6 pot lights
- install 4-6 electrical outlets
House is approx. 1200 sq ft. Looking to reno to include a suite in the basement. Includes installation of a kitchen including proper sink drain and connection for dishwasher, electrical for a stove and rangehood in the previous bar area. Water is already run to the bar but the drain needs to be reconfigured to accommodate higher use and a dishwasher. Hoping to use stock cabinets (or recycled cabinets if anything suitable can be found). Appliances will be provided by owner.
Suspended ceiling throughout needs to be replaced. No painting required. (Will be done by owner). One bedroom needs no work other than the ceiling replaced. Main bedroom requires the ceiling replaced and paneling on exterior wall only to be removed and replaced with drywall (needs a nicer door/cover for the electrical panel also).
Living area requires a small amount of drywall (80's style textured walls to be replaced). One basement window that was covered needs to be uncovered and replaced within the existing opening.
All fluorescent lighting needs to be replaced with pot lights and/or wall sconces. Switches and plugs to be updated to white (note: it is aluminum wiring).
One wall to be built at bottom of stairs for secure access to the suite allowing for common access to laundry room. One wall in common area to be framed for closet style storage.
Dependent on the cost, may also look at removing a corner shower in the bathroom and replacing with a larger tiled shower or installation of a smaller bathtub shower combo(configuration doesn't allow for 60" pre-fab showers).
Pending cost, may be willing to do demo and removal.
Looking to start as soon as possible with completion date by end of Jan. to allow renter to be in by Feb. 1st.

I need my basement finished. It needs to be drywalled and taped. Hi there, we would like a quote to have the basement renovated. It is open, bare with insulation and only vapour barrier on the outside walls right now. There will be a bathroom, bedroom, family room and storage room/closet needed. Due to the layout, there is little room for options. The ceiling should be suspended. I will hire for carpet and electrical. We will do all the painting of walls.
Hello,
Looking to update a 60's style rec room into a more modern space. Get rid of the wood panelling, drywall Add a bedroom, and have the rest a home theater area. The home itself is 1050 sq feet so need to maximize the space. I have posted some pictures of the current rec room with a L shaped layout.
Thanks for looking.

Hi there,
We are completely renovating our basement and need to build a bedroom, complete a small bathroom, create a living/tv space, kids play area (small child and adolescent kids) and have an area for working out. It's a tall order in a small space (less than 888 square feet. There's also a laundry area that would need some attention.
I'm looking for help in making the very best use of the space we have and making it work for our family.
We want to do all of the renovations ourselves, but I want to have a good plan before we begin. What would you charge to help us create a plan?
