Heating Problem.
My furnace used to run for a long period of time, stops, and does a cycle depending on the set thermo. Recently it ran for 2 mins, stops for 2 mins, and cycles. Now it runs 8mins, 8 mins stops, and cycles. Our concern is the fact that it runs too often.
We have checked the thermos, to which is still set at 21 degrees.
We have had the controller changed, and it still remains at a similar cycle as below.
Our heating bill last month was $400, and this month at $275. Comparing this to our neighbour (exact same sq ft, and model), theirs is substantially less (at $150 this month).
Please advise.
Thanks.
1500 squ. ft. semi that is under reno of what was a commercial storefront, now to be included in res. living space. The area is open to run heating to 2nd floor with 6 rads and 1 rad to be placed on main floor side entry hall. The main floor rear has existing slantfin baseboard also in rear part of basement. These rads are on a loop with monoflow Ts, the supply / return to be tied into new system. The second floor has 1 new myson rad using existing piping and supply/return to be tied in. The storefront will have 4 rads on one zone (For this heating season I need only 1 temporary rad installed in storefront area). Rear of storefront existing for one zone and 2nd floor one zone. It is unfortunate that the person that was to do the job is dealing with health problems. The following is what I purchased from him; Trinity Ti 100, 1/2 inch pex, manifolds, myson / stelrad and rad fittings.
We are doing a 2 story addition to our house and need someone to do the design and the work for heating, plumbing and electrical. We also want to add air conditioning and was told that high velocity AC is the way to go. We currently use water heater for heat and would like to keep that for heating and just hoping to add AC. For plumbing, the addition will have 2 new bathrooms. How much would it cost us?
I have a Hi-Velocity hydronic (HV-101) heating system mated with a John Wood JWC-111 DW tankless water heater which provide heat and hot water to my household. The furnace is about 5 years old and the tankless about 3.
The problem I have is that when the hydronic heating operates it somehow stops hot water from reaching the domestic taps. This happens even though the tankless heater can produce 200,000BTU and the hydronic heating coil uses less than 90,0000 BTU.
Previously the problem was, I thought, solved by reducing the size of the pump for the hydronic heating and that solution worked for about a year, but has now returned. (Current pump: Grundfos UP15-42 B7)
What I would like a quote for is the following:
1) Add a flow control switch to the domestic hot water to either a) turn off the air handler on the furnace; or b) turn off the pump to the furnace when there is a call for domestic hot water.
2) Replace existing check valve (I have the replacement, would just need to be threaded into place)
The Job would take place in downtown Toronto near the college/bathurst intersection.

There is a duct that runs up a wall between a bedroom and the living room. Currently the bedroom has no vent (previous owners moved vents). I want to close the current vent off on the living room side and open it up on the opposite side to heat the bedroom.

Hello,
Looking for an HVAC Contractor to complete a new home installation, where the current contractor was removed from the job.
In summary the following needs to be completed.
Installation of all equipment, I.e, two furnaces, two a/c units, two HRV units.
Drops from supply and return duct work to furnaces.
All gas lines.
All bathroom fans need to be vented.
Thank you.
We have a number of new builds and renovations and looking for another sub to help with our work load. some immediate help on one job includes install of keeprite unit on one of our jobs in east york, and then a gas line connect for a main floor reno from gas line to new gas stove.
Other major projects include two new houses in stouffville, we can supply dwgs, and 3 major renovations in the toronto area
I live in a townhouse with my furnace and water heater in the garage.
I'm in need of replacing the venting pipes from furnace & water heater. The pipes lead from my furnace room in my garage behind the adjoining basement wall and out to the backyard.
I will need whoever is replacing the pipes to REMOVE & REPLACE the drywall as well.
Hi All,
I have just taken this job as General contractor and looking for experienced, reliable, honest HVAC contractor to quote on this job.
Existing situation.
The approximate each floor is about 1000 sft. On Main floor one front glass exposure approx. 20'x 8' ht. say 160 sft. and one rear window say 25 sft.
Second floor is having one window in front, one at rear and two sky lights.
The main floor is a commercial unit with existing Radiator heating with old boiler in basement, the second floor and basement were on baseboard heating, Air conditioners were window units.
What needs to be done:
1) To replace existing system and provide New Furnace and Air conditioner with supplying to all floors, if it is out of budget then we may leave basement on base board and just do the Main floor and Second floor.
As the project is on tight budget would like to work with experienced contractors with similar experience.
Send me your companies detail, work experience and a ball park estimate (if you can or ask for site visit)
Thanks
I am looking for an HVAC designer to design nat gas furnace based heating and airconditioning for a 1 level bungalow. 660 sq foot as per the appraisal. It has a low basement so it is a bit tricky. I am looking for someone who has dealt with small house design. I will also need to review the soft copy to make sure I understand all aspects of the design before the final printout for the city.
We have a 2.5 storey detached home in Roncesvalles Village which is undergoing a total renovation. Square footage of basement, main level, 2nd storey = approx 800 each, loft = 350 sq ft. Currently has hydronic heating (boiler and radiators), but want to replace (will consider forced air or hydronic), and lacks AC, which is a must for us (currently no ducting). Would like to receive a few detailed estimates outlining our options and pros and cons of each type of system. We will likely require the transformation in about five weeks time. Please reach out if you are available to do a site visit in the near term and tender on this type of work in the near future.
Thanks.

I would like to have a proper filter rack installed on my furnace. I purchased my townhouse 21 years ago as a new build. The builder placed a flimsy washable filter on the HVAC system. The space where the filter goes was made too slim for a proper 1" filter to actually fit. Therefore I would like to have a proper frame put on in order to allow for a filter to slide in smoothly.
