The work was completed on time as promised and was of the highest quality. Clean up was immaculate. Syd pays great attention to every detail of the multi-faceted process. The 35 year old floors are like new again.

To confirm our very positive impression of Syd, he quickly found time to come back to repair minor damage to the floor which we caused while we were returning furniture.

We had Syd and his team sand and refinish the birch floors on the main level of our home. Syd's attention to detail was evident from when we first met him for an estimate. Throughout the process, he explained all aspects very clearly, offered a range of options, and helped us find the finish that aligns with what we wanted aesthetically, and also has the durability that we need.

We couldn't be happier. The restored floors exceed our expectations, and all at a reasonable price! The Facebook/Instagram updates throughout the process were also a great added touch. As the project involved a large surface area, it was great to see how things were evolving over the several days that we were away while the team completed their work.

I was told by other contractors that hardwood refinishing is not lowest bidder type of work so, although his quote was slightly higher than others, we went with Syd's Flooring after looking at online reviews. It was worth every penny.

Syd is very knowledgeable and walked us through the whole process, recommending colours and finish types. He communicated with us for progress updates and for any issues encountered that required our input.

The end result looks fantastic. The sanding and staining was done so close to the wall that we were able to put 1/2" baseboards without any quarter round. We will definitely be contacting Syd again when the finish is due for maintenance.

We installed new hardwood flooring in the upper hall and had the main staircase recapped as the carpeted floor/stairs was starting to look alittle dated. I purchased a 12 year old bungalow in Orleans with the intent to have the main floor hardwood refinished after years of obvious wear and tear. I showed the job to three Ottawa area contractors with Syd’s price, comments from social media and warranty being the deciding factor to go with his company. The birch floor in our kitchen was badly worn (scratches from a dog plus two decades of wear and tear), and after contacting a few floor refinishers, we settled on Syd's Flooring. Almost all the others didn't want to come & look at the floor, but rather, simply provided a quote over the phone based on the dimensions I gave them....not ideal when the client wants to discuss the work in some detail and ask questions, as we did. Syd, however, was happy to set up an appointment; and then spent over an hour with us looking closely at the floor, explaining his process for sanding & refinishing, discussing the merits of various finishes, and answering quite a few questions. Syd's quoted price was competitive relative to what other contractors had estimated.

Bonus: Syd suggested that he do our dining room floor at the same time - it would be only a bit more expensive, because the two rooms together were only slightly over the square footage that he would refinish for his minimum charge. We'd never have thought to ask about that, and jumped at the chance to have two rooms done for a very reasonable price.

Communication with Syd was excellent throughout; the job started on the scheduled date and was finished on time; and the promised 99% dust-free sanding was more like 99.9% (yay!). We couldn't be happier with both the entire process and the result - absolutely gorgeous floors. Our finish of choice was Loba Supra AT satin, which is more often used on commercial floors but will provide super-protection against scratches and general wear in our kitchen, which gets pretty heavy use.

Syd also recommended that we have him do a refresh of the floors, particularly the kitchen, after about five years, or when we notice that we're seeing a lot of surface scratches. This involves a deep cleaning, then application of another coat of finish; having this work done regularly will likely delay the need for a full refinish (which is a LOT more disruptive) for quite a few years. We weren't aware of that as an option for long-term maintenance of hardwood floors, and will definitely have it done when the need arises.

It was a pleasure to have Syd and Luc working in our house. As well as being top-notch at the art of floor refinishing, they're personable and friendly, and didn't seem to mind answering our questions as they arose during the process. Should we need floor-refinishing services in the future, we will definitely hire Syd's Flooring again; and I recommend them without reservation to anyone looking for this kind of service. They are, quite simply, the best!

We were very pleased with our refinished floors in August 2008. The service was prompt, courteous, and attention was paid to every detail.

Syd and Luc refinished my 60 year old oak strip flooring that was in bad shape after decades of wear and partial DIY refinishing jobs. They did the entire house end to end two months ago and I could be happier with the results. The sanding job was superb and great care was taken to get even the tightest corners in the closets flat. I didn’t notice any dust whatsoever afterwards, not in the ductwork or on top of the picture frames I left on the walls.

The best part is the house didn’t smell like a varnish factory afterwards. Syd has a complete refinishing system based on low VOC water-based products for those who are interested in a more natural look. It smelled no different than a fresh paint job. It was largely cleared out by the time I was moving my stuff back 5 days later. Just a minimal background smell for another 2ish weeks after that, not an overpowering varnish smell.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Syd. He was very patient answering questions by email after the estimate and seeing him in action, he clearly loves what he does.
