Were you given a certificate of insurance? Sounds like you were. Simply call agent and ask.

Normally all insurance companies will cover 2,000,000. on the project if there is a fault on what he was working on. As an electrician, my insurance covers my electrical company even if there is a plumbing leak caused by something I damage. Not that it has ever happened.

While most contractors carry broad insurance coverage, it is not always the case. You can get insurance that is very specific in it's coverage of the work the contractor does. Eg. a foundation contractor normally wouldn't be covered if he does a kitchen renovation.

I would call his insurance company to see if he is covered to replace siding. Better safe than sorry.
