Hello
I need someone to build my basement. the wireing is done. i have the pink glass done i just need to get the carpet done and walls. the basement is farly large.i need 2 rooms there (bedrooms) a couple of weeks ago a bulb had fallen from the swick and all of the light wount turn on. i have no idea why.
I'm looking for a company that can take care for my paperwork in order to get Building Permit, Electrical/Heating/Plumbing permits. I just want the papers and plans so I can start building everything. I dont mean to be smart but City of Calgary changed the requirements on their website compared with last year. So please check.
Thanks a lot.
I would like to eventually finish my basement, but first I want to move 2 posts supporting 2 different beams in my basement to open it up. One post could be moved about 4ft to place it by the stair case, and it would no longer be in the way. The other post on the second beam would have to be completely removed, as the post already exists 4ft away. I have attached a picture that shows what I would like to do.
We have a 1200 sq ft duplex in with the basement half finished. It currently has a bath and large bedroom.
We are looking to get the rest of the basement finished. The basement is about ~600 sq ft. in total
Jobs we need done are:
Framing - 1 New Wall and around the ducts
Electrical - New breakers, outlets and lights
Drywall - Walls, and ceiling in new area and stairs from the main to the basement, inc mudding and taping.
Ceiling - Stucco
Painting
Potential additions:
Laminate flooring
Carpet on the stairs and landing
Baseboards and Door trim
Doors/Cabinets for under stairs storage
Looking to begin the project soon. Please look at the attached picture for a plan of the basement and the developed/undeveloped areas.
We need a 3 piece bathroom (with no roughed in plumbing) put into an existing basement storage room. Vanity sink with under storage, tub with shower, and we want to pick the tub.
We need a to wall off the furnace with a pocket door. ( right next to the bathroom.)
A small basement window upgraded to a legal bedroom window,
One wall added to box in a space for a closet ( already have 2 walls existing, just need to extend a current wall 7 - 9 feet to wall it in. Need strong durable shelving in the closet as it's likely to take a huge storage room role
A portion of two walls knocked down/cut shorter to open up a couple dead spaces.
We would love to hear from you for a quote.
I'm just wondering approx how much a person might charge to finish a basement job. My dad started but had an accident with his hand and a saw. Needless to say it will be awhile before he gets back to it. The basement is about 450 Sq ft and is fully insulated and as well has the vapour barrier up. There will be a small bathroom with a shower and a small craft room and a small bedroom. The electrical, drywall, and framing are mostly done and the plumbing has been dug up and the pipes have been layed. everything that has been done is either up to code or better. We have all the supplies needed to complete the job.
Our Goal: The goal is to turn the sub-basement of a 4 level split into a master bedroom with bathroom and walk in closet.
Please Note: We would prefer to use one general contractor for all works described below. If however you would like to bid on an individual portion of the work please make a note.
Price is important, however your reputation is paramount. We will be collecting and researching references:
For easy comparison make the following assumptions: 400 Sq Foot - Assume 70 linear feet of wall board required (10 foot is brick fireplace and will remain unchanged).
The house was built in 1961 and no known electrical/plumbing or code issues.
The Job: Currently the space is open plan with a small existing bathroom.
We would like to install 2-3 windows above grade.
The selected party would need to remove all existing interior wall finishes ( textured and panelled) and replace with wall board / mud and prime.
In terms of framing: We will be closing off the stairway (in the shape of a U) to create privacy for the new bedroom. We will also require a total of 10 additional new feet of walling to create the space for the extended bathroom and closet.
The bathroom will be extended to accommodate a walk in shower and single vanity (replace existing tub and sink)
In the bathroom the selected party will install a tiled walk-in-shower with all appropriated water/proofing etc.... and new vanity.
Finally we are looking to fit provided carpet and smooth the existing popcorn ceiling.
Any Questions please contact me or clarify in your response.
Multiple Responses accepted.
Thanks!
Develop a legal secondary suite, the electrical panel must be moved, install a secondary furnace, install a kitchen, fire separation (maybe), you must know the codes to make it legal and recommend us what to do, currently, we have 2 bedrooms and a incomplete washroom, the place is a bungalow.
Thanks,
Erick
We are home owners. We recently bought a 1983 original home which includes a walk out basement. We would like to develop the walk out basement into a legal basement suite. The square footage of the basement is roughly 1100 square feet. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom currently in the basement. We would not be doing a lot of structural changes. We have contracted someone already to do the two egress windows in the bedrooms. Our budget is $50,000.
In order to keep our costs within budget, we are looking to partner with a contractor as we would plan to do some of the work ourselves. The following is a list of what we would hope for from the contractor’s end of things:
- Obtain all permits applicable to legalizing and developing the suite
- Take care of all electrical, wiring, light fixtures, etc.
- Take care of all plumbing
- Venting
- Heating
- Partial Demo (walls, ceilings, bathroom, etc.)
- Sound proof ceilings between main floor and basement and if necessary, fire proof
- Currently we have dry walled, popcorn ceilings which are unpainted. We would like to have them finished in either a flat finish or knockdown.
- In terms of structural changes, we are not doing much. We have one wall that we want to move over about 3 feet to enlarge the master bedroom. It is not a structural or load bearing wall.
- Drywall, mud and prime
- Add in a gas fire place
We would take care of the following:
- Design and order Ikea kitchen – take care of installation and work together to schedule in plumbing, etc.
- Design and order bathroom (sink, vanities, tub, etc.) It would remain in the same layout but with new fixtures. We would be adding a double sink to the vanity. – take care of installation
- Take out all existing carpet
- All painting
Up for negotiation (depending on cost, with we or you could take care of the following):
- Luxury Vinyl plank flooring throughout – supply and install
- Windows (we need to replace 3 windows, 1 exterior door, remove one window and add two in it’s place)
We are flexible with our timeline but would like to get started on the process withing the next few weeks. Please feel free to send me any questions or if you’d like to schedule a time to come by and see the place, let me know. Thank you!
House built in 2004 with an undeveloped basement and missing parts of fence.
Looking for two separate quotes - wood fence preferred, originally purchased the house with fencing only on the back and right hand side when facing the yard. Would like the fence to be completed as well as gates put in on either side of the house.
Undeveloped basement - has only insulation and water barrier, of which a small corner needs to be fixed after being damaged by my pet. There is currently no rough in for pipe but want to have a bathroom downstairs, one guest room and one main entertainment room.
I can provide square footage of basement and measurement of fencing required upon request (I do not have it handy with me at this moment).
Approximately 900 sqft of basement development, rec room, bathroom and 1 bedroom. Rough in for bathroom already completed. Looking for basic refinishing (no extensive wood work or fire places). May consider in floor heating if it is possible without damaging concrete flooring. Likely carpeting as flooring. Basement has only 8 ft ceilings and duct work will need to be covered in. Room is essentially an L shape with an 8 X 11' jutt out under the kitchen eating area above. Only 3 windows in the basement. House is less than 10 years old. Before basement is finished off, need to run gas for a new gas stove for kitchen (which will be above the finished part of the basement).
On line quotes only - not ready yet to have anyone visit our property as we are looking to see what the ballpark prices are before we engage any further. Understood that prices are estimates of site unseen project.
My wife & I own a 1/2 duplex. It is 26 yrs. old. We have decided to finish our basement. We need to rent a portable storage unit for our driveway, so we can empty the basement (except for clothes washer). We will also be renting a garbage bin for the duration of the project. All old drywall will be removed, Replacement of 1 basement window. All drywall to be done by project crew. You will need to frame off a Laundry/Furnace Room. Bi-fold and sliding doors will be implemented as part of this design.
We also want to have a drop (t-bar) ceiling installed.
One room is to be developed into a home entertainment / theater area.
Some lino to be removed from basement floor to be replaced by berber carpet of our choice in basement & stairs. There is to be railing installed on stairs. There is also finishing work involved.
We will be obtaining a building permit for this project.
We will be re-wiring & bringing wiring up to code. We already have an experienced, journeymen electrician 'on board'.
Inspections will take place at the appropriate timings to ensure that the city is satisfied with the project's progression.
The company/s involved with this project will be required to be on contract.
We do not have a vehicle, so we will be relying on your assistance to obtain supplies. Efforts can be co-ordinated for us to obtain supplies, as well.
We would prefer for us to meet; for you to review the site, discuss suggestions - options.
Thank you for taking the time to review our project's specs. We welcome any questions regarding our project. We look forward to hearing from you.
Have a great day! Sincerely, Lael Peters & Donna Swinamer.
The house was built in 2010. I've done some landscaping and other tweaks and now want to consider finishing the basement for more usable living space but I am not 100% sure I need to do it at all. I want to see what my costs might be and what result I could expect for that money. The basement is insulated with plumbing roughed in and large windows and just needs to be dry walled, painted and carpeted - at minimum - and finished with a wet bar, & bathroom with a shower stall at best. Less than 1000 SQ FT by the way
We have a 1907 house in Ramsay and we want to have the basement finished. We would like the following work done:
-- insulate and drywall the walls.
-- replace furnace and ducts.
-- replace 5 windows.
-- enlarge one window to the legal standard.
-- turn one of the rooms into a bedroom.
-- carpet the floors. (~400sq.ft.)
-- build a 3 pc bathroom.
-- move the laundry room (only plumbing and electrical required; no wall work)
-- drywall the ceiling.
-- telepost installation and footing.
-- mill work for doors, walls, etc.
The plumbing and the electrical in the house have been recently done so no updating is needed. The square footage upstairs is 850sqft. The basement is slightly smaller ~800sqft.
I would like to finish the basement in my 2 storey house (built in 2003) with a bathroom (sink, toilet, shower), one bedroom, a rec room, storage room, and entry to the basement door (it is a walk out home). This will require permits, plumbing, electrical, framing, drywall, painting, flooring, etc. Thanks.
Hello,
I am looking for a contractor that is able to complete a job started by another contractor. Some of the items needing to be fixed are drywall and paint, hanging doors including fire door for one suite, fixing some vents where there is a noticeable two-inch difference (drywall and paint repair required to fix this error), and any other deficiencies.
If possible I would like to have a walkthrough and quotes done on Saturday or Sunday.
Thank you,
Jennifer
I want to finish the basement which will include painting, mudding and taping. Possibly I would like to look into the replacement of linoleum just on the main floor. Hardwood is pretty much done. Maybe look into replacing carpet on stairs that has been torn by cats. You will have to forgive my lack of knowledge in this area but my husband and I are separating and things as a DIY project aren't moving quickly enough for my liking. The house was built in 1992 and is app. 1750 square feet. I am intersted in cost time frame etc.
This is s split-level townhouse, the basement/storage room is 16'-9" X 12'-9"' however the ceiling height is high at 12+ feet with a large window. This room houses all the dwelling's major utility pieces such as furnace/hot water tank/electrical/internet boxes, floor drain, etc.
I would like to like to have the following work completed:
- install sub-floor & flooring w/in-floor heating
- complete drywall and ceiling work
- utilize the ceiling height and create an upper mezzanine area accessible by permanent ladder for storage
- box in furnace/tank, etc to create the look of walls while allowing for adequate ventilation/access
- upgrade lighting
- add built-in desk/cabinetry units to create a useable office area
- add air conditioning into the existing furnace unit
It is a 2005 house and I'm the first owner. The walls in the basement are framed and insulated. I intend to build a bathroom and a bedroom. I'm interested in framing for additionals walls, electrical, plumbing, drywall. I'm thinking to do this maybe in late august but for the moment I want to see how much would this cost. Thanks.
I'm the owner of the home. I would like a quote for approximately 410 square feet of basement framed to prepare it for electrical and spray foam. The job is in Coventry Hills.
Approximate lengths to be framed are 22', 25', 19' and 9'. One wall of the existing mechanical room will have to be moved temporarily so that the wood wall can be continued into the mechanical room, terminating at the stairs. The mechanical room wall will then have to be put back, but with a new opening size to code (32" opening).
I also would like a quote to drywall and mud/tape the walls and mechanical room.
Drywall for walls should be 1/2". Wood touching concrete should be pressure treated. 2 x 4 framing fine to prepare for spray foam.
Permit obtained already and floor plan available.
