Good Night We have recently purchased our first home, and after all expense we incurred during our closing we have small budget remaining but would like to see what we can have completed at a reasonable cost and after reading about Handymancanadian.com and we like to use there services to find a great contractor with reasonable estimates.
We would like to receive an estimates on some small work that we would like to get done around the house before we move in. To mention would like to get the our stairs done as we pulled up carpet and doesn't look as we would like, and we would like to have each wall on the top floor done to look smooth, and have flooring and 9 inch baseboards installed along with crown molding, along with a light fixture installed.
If you are available to swing by on Thursday, between 9am and 2pm please let me know, as we are currently shopping around as we'd like to get someone to start, on September 1st and complete any work we have in to do in 14 days max. If your interested please let me know if your available to come by and provide us with a estimate.
Purchased new house from original owners (40 yr old house) Wycliff Homes at DVP/Lawrence Ave. We require effecient, professional, quality contractor to provide a quote for the job, given inspection of the rooms and house project. We, the homeowners are currently not living in the house. Please provide a general contractor who can visit house to give a reasonable quote.
We are getting ready to move into a house that has a 1/2 bath in the basement that is adjacent to the laundry/furnace room. We would like to expand the bathroom to include a shower and take that sroom from the furnace/laundry room. We would also like to reconfigure the laundry/furnace room so that the laundry/water heater are moved to the other side of the room and that we put in a laundry sink.
We have a 2.5 storey Edwardian home in Toronto. The attic is dry walled and poorly insulated. I would like to know what the cost would be to tear out the triangle old board structure to extend the height of the roof and foam insulate the entire area. Interested in what the cost to change the roof structure from a triangle to a dormer would be.
Also interested in quotes to add to this basic job:
- to add a full staircase that is in parallel to the existing staircase from the main to the second floor. This would provided a true staircase to the attic.
- add a bathroom on the third floor
- build a walkout deck from this third floor
- shingle the roof
We have a typical North York 1 1/2 story double-brick house that has a shed dormer which contains a bathroom and walk-in closet. There is a bedroom on either side of the dormer with sloped ceilings. We would like to extend the existing dormer to the front of the house to make our master bedroom bigger. We would possibly add a dormer to the other side as well, but that would depend on cost.
What we are looking for is someone that can take care of roof structure, shingles, roof venting, framing and siding. We will take care of all interior work such as insulation, electrical and drywalling.
Obviously we would also need architectural drawings and engineering sign-off. We can take care of that unless you can do it or have contacts in that area.
The only complicating factor that I could see is the utility pole that sticks out of the roof where the new dormer would be.
I am the property owner - it's a detached house >100 years old.
Approx 800 sq ft on each: basement, main, and second levels.
350sq ft loft (3rd level).
Requires new electrical (replace the existing knob and tube), new plumbing, new insulation, new windows and doors, new hydronic heating (can possibly utilize existing boiler), new AC (currently none installed), new kitchen, bathrooms, and flooring, etc.
We would like to have our basement retaining wall, steps, and walkway evaluated for the best kind of repair. The basement apartment door failed to close during part of last winter due to the expansion of the door jamb.
Looking for evaluation of the space for the best solution and repair.
The attachment has pictures and we'd like to get some assessment from qualified contractors.
Thank you.
The scope of work is listed below. We will accept quote(s) on one or any combination of the work. Site visits welcomed. Work must be completed prior to September 15th.

hi there,
we just purchased a home that we would like to do exterior renovations on. The home was built in the 1970's and has quite an italian looking feel: it's outdated and we would like to renovate it to make it look more like a modern character home. our budget is limited, doesn't need to be drastic renovations at this time.
I am looking to sell my house next spring/summer and I'm looking to improve the outside as much as possible for curb appeal and sale value. My budget is 30-40k and within this I would like demolish a detached garage that is falling apart and replace it with a carport, fix up/rebuild front porch, fix up/rebuild a small back extension, and do whatever other improvements might be necessary to get the exterior of the house sale ready. The specifics are flexible as I'm mainly looking for whatever is cost effective within that budget.
Addition: Renovation of existing 8x10 addition. House is 90+ years, but addition is approximately 30-40 years. Reinforce structure, re-insulate, new vinyl siding. Currently has French doors and 2 windows - remove French doors and close off, replace one window with garden window, replace 2nd window with doors. Install skylight.
Shed: Build two-section shed (10x12 + 8x10). Gabled roofs, re-use French door and one window from addition. 2x6 construction, insulated (including floor), vinyl siding. Drywall 8x10 section. Electrical (see details below).
Electrical: Upgrade panel to 200 A service (currently 100 A). Replace 1 knob and tube circuit (2nd floor lighting circuit). Run electrical to shed, wiring receptacles, lighting.
Supply all required permits, insurance, etc.
Location: Toronto, Beach

Hi,
I just bought a house in Etobicoke. My move in date is Aug 17th. The fence and deck would commence on the 17th Aug. A lot of work needs to be done, but the most important is a fence. I have 2 days for contractors to go and assess the work and cost that needs to be done. I will also be looking at a new roof in the following days after Aug 17th. And some repairs to the interior of house.
Thank You for your time
Robin
Hello,
We have some mould issues in the finished basement of our house we moved into a year ago that look like they will require interior Reno: (envelope sealing, insulation, vapour barrier, plumbing, minor electrical, framing and drywall).
We are looking for a general contractor who can fully assess the situation, bring in the required trades and restore the space before end of May.
Can you help?
Hi! We have a Leslieville detached home, roughly 100 years old. We renovated the house slowly as we went but we now want to make the attic a liveable space/bedroom for our son. Currently, the attic is uninsulated, plywood floor and enough electrical for an overhead light.
Also, it is currently accessible through a trap door and ladder in the hallway ceiling. We would like to add a set of stairs (which may require adding a dormer (not sure I am using the right term) in the roof for headroom as we would come up the stairs) unless another solution is possible.
Basically, we would need: insulation, drywall, flooring, possibly a dormer in the roof, stairs to upstairs, closing and patching up the current trap door, 1 new window at each end of the attic.
The attic is roughly 38 x 15 and the roof peak runs along the length of the house.
Would love to hear from you as soon as you can. Thank you!
We are looking for someone to built a wall that will hold a 39 to 42 inch wide gas fireplace. I have an basic idea of what we want, but would like some additional input and ideas based on costs, etc.
We want dry wall and marble or tile around the fireplace. I can provide a picture of what I like.
The house is approx. 70 years old, located in High Park (Toronto). The work we need done is extensive. We are looking to relocate a bathroom... open up a kitchen... tear a down a wall (or 2)... knock out a pre-existing fireplace (not working)... knock out the windows in the kitchen, replace with french doors and create a deck.. and lastly, replace all the flooring (including fixing a current hump we have in the floor).
