I will give Enercare 0 star if it is an option. I have purchased Enercare's total protection plan for years, hoping it will cover repairs down the road. My AC unit stopped working last week. This was the first time I called Enercare for service. The technician told me a new AC unit was need, without explaining what the problem was. I was quoted $5,000 + tax for a brand new unit and was told it would not be covered by the protection plan. I called Enercare, waited for 45 minutes to talk to a rep who had no clue and could barley speak understandable English.
Shame on this company which regrettably has a large market share. I will definitely cancel all my protection plans. I will speak to CTV and ask them to look into this unscrupulous company.
I made the mistake of renting an air conditioner from Enercare, not realizing that there was an inflated buyout price upon cancelling the rental agreement. When our furnace died recently and we decided to upgrade to a heat pump, we had to pay $3500 to get out of the rental agreement. We are now out $3500 and we have a large air conditioner, which they will not take back, sitting in our backyard.
Enercare is a predatory company. They might be okay to buy from (although they are overpriced with medium quality service). Never, never rent from this company. It is better to avoid them altogether.
I'm writing to report the appalling service I received in late November 2022.
I've been a subscriber to Enercare's maintenance plan for 8-10 years, with a scheduled service every Fall, including in October 2022.
I awoke to a freezing house on the first really cold weekend of late 2022. A technician was unavailable until that night. The technician came, said that a certain part was broken, and that he was ordering a new one, which would be delivered the next day FOR SURE. He said that I should call as soon as it was delivered and then a technician would come and repair the problem. Fine.
My house was at C4 degrees! Somehow I survived the night with an electric heater.
What happened next: NO delivery - ever! - of the part. No follow up whatsoever from Enercare. I called them at least 8 times and got a different story every time: I would hear from them within 4 hours (I did not). I would get a call in 4-8 hours (never happened). The part's manufacturer was no longer in Canada and no one was answering the phone in the US. Really?! How can it be that Enercare doesn't stock a common part?!
Not once did I get any calls from them even though they knew I am a senior citizen and told me my case was listed as an emergency!
In desperation, after 5 days, I found another company to come and work on the problem. Within 10 minutes my furnace was back working!! The technician said the problem had been completely misdiagnosed and was caused by another part which could be temporarily bypassed. The next day a replacement part was installed.
When I reported this to Enercare I was given a claim number and told they would reimburse me when I received the invoice. When I did so, they offered me a fraction of the amount I was billed and refused to honour their promise. I told them I wanted to immediately cancel my contract with them and they said I could NOT do so until September.
Never have I been treated in this way by any company!!!
My husband and I rented a furnace/AC unit from Roy Inch and sons (2021) because they were the best company we had ever dealt with. However Enercare purchased roy inch and sons in Feb 2022. We didn't realize this change until August 2022 when our basement was flooded and I tried calling for an inspection on a Friday, my call was forward to Enercare. I had to leave my name for a call back in which they didn't bother to call me back until the following week. They then proceeded to tell me that they couldn't come out to inspect the equipment because they didn't service Sarnia area and that they would need to send a different company. It took over two weeks for a technician to come out. I let them know what the issues were. He said he needed to replace a part, it's now 4 months with no new part installed. I have never dealt with a worst company. Very poor customer service. We would have purchased our furnace outright if we have known that we had to work with Enercare.
Our furnace stopped working since last fri, with a red flashing light of 4+2 blinks, I checked for reference and it’s supposed to be limit switch not working so cutoff the valve. Technician came and quickly determined us a broken valve instead, left immediately saying will replace the part to ship to my house and asked me to call them next day. I waited whole day nothing come in, called them and said part will come mon since part department not open weekend. Waited mon still no part then called them complained again, and again promised me today which is a week already. Now still cannot see the part coming!! Don’t waste your money to subscribe to their scam, or call them to cancel or get your money back if you already subscribed to them!!
Re: Re: Property Address - Enercare’s water heater rental contracts, policies and practices
In Jan 2016 I purchased a property at XXX. The previous owner rented a 50 Gallon Gas Water Heater unit from Enercare Home Services. When I bought the home, without my knowledge the rental agreement was inherited on me. I contacted Enercare back in March 2017 to cancel the monthly rental but they have informed me that I will not be able to cancel the Rental agreement unless I pay around $1,200 for canceling the agreement.
I reviewed the Agreement of Purchase and Sale (APS) that was executed as part of the home purchase. Section 6 called Rental Items (including lease to own) was blank and there were no equipment listed in that section. Therefore, I have no contract with Enercare Home Services as that is a legally binding agreement with the previous homeowner and any rental should have been disclosed at the time of the sale.
Around June 2017 I had to disconnect the Enbridge and other utility accounts such as electrical and water for the demolition of the house and re-construction work. After the reconstruction, new connections for all the utilities was were established for the newly built house in summer 2019. Enercare called me a few times in 2020 to pay for the cancelation of the water tank, I have requested them to show the rental agreement signed by the previous owner and proof that how I inherited the responsibility of someone else's contract. I also pointed out the fact that the Enbridge utility account that was associated with Enercare was canceled in 2017. Despite my attempts to contact Enercare Home Services and obtain information, they have not provided the requested information even after I made numerous phone calls and sent multiple emails.
In addition to this, I have not received any written communication such as mail or emails from Enercare advising that my house is under their contract, all their communication is through phone. The agent I have spoken to, told me that you don’t have an option to cancel the account other than buying the unit. I do not have an account with Enercare.
I recently came to know that Enercare engaged a collection agency to get the cancellation fee, there was no communication from Enercare about this and also no email or written letter about cancelation charges and engaging the collection agency. I feel I am being threatened and manipulated into something that is not my legal responsibility.
Now that a collection agency is involved - It appears to me that Enercare Home Services is trying to gouge money without providing contractual evidence. This is not only unprofessional, but also unethical and does not have any legal merit since my purchase agreement does not have any evidence of this.
Bad bad company.
Bad service bad customer service.
They put me on hold for every time for half an hour to get an appointment to come and install the humidifier and he’s not a chance. Every time it’s a problem. Every time promising and nothing. Having absolutely terrible customer service. There was this man. Terrible company never again.
We have the plumbing maintenance plan with Enercare, where we pay $20 per month and $240 per year. Yes, it is costly when you consider that a clogged drain or toilet is rare. We recently had a clogged kitchen sink drain and I called for an appointment and and soonest they could get someone in was in 8 days! Imagine living with a clogged sink where you can't wash dishes or prepare your meals for 8 days! I spoke to my husband and he was livid, so I called the following day and indicated that it was completely unacceptable that we had to wait 8 days for servicing. They were able to reschedule the appointment to have someone come over in 2 days. The guy shows up, gets out a motorized plumbing snake and proceeds to feed the end piece through the pipe and lo and behold takes out a clump of debris. He didn't have to go far to get the debris. Not satisfied with this, he puts the snake back in and I don't know how far he went, but it was pretty far because the floor started to shake. I had this uneasy feeling that he might be damaging the pipes! Finally, he takes out the snake and there is nothing on end piece, so all that for nothing. Now I'm worried that he may have damaged the pipes and we'll be seeing a leak in the near future. A very costly repair! He puts everything back and realizes that there is still a blockage but it's near the top of the drain, which he didn't bother to address. He proceed to cut the two pipes and realizes he doesn't have the replacement parts and will have to come back another day. This has become the never ending saga of the clogged kitchen drain!!!! Luckily my subscription is renewing in a few days and I will cancel. Goodbye Enercare!
