A portion of my hardwood floor had overtime been damaged by water ingress via an external balcony door.
The water ingress was a slow process and so initially difficult to notice until such time that ‘movement’ in my floor could be seen. The first stage was to assess the damage and stop the water ingress. Then I needed to find a ‘professional’ floor repairer.
The repair to my floor was not an ‘easy’ process and required someone who had significant experience in laying and repairing floors.
Harley from Victoria Hardwood Floors was excellent. His skill level meant that the repair was very good indeed. The whole process was managed efficiently and professionally.
I would highly recommend Harley and Victoria Hardwood Floors for any flooring project.
Very pleased with the recent job completed by Harley from Victoria Hardwood Floors. Our oak floors were in poor shape - 20 years of pets, children and general wear and tear. They now look amazing! While the job did take a wee bit longer, it was obvious that Harley took great pride in his work - paying attention to details that I hadn't even noticed but contribute to a truly professional job. The finish is exceptional and the clean up afterwards was excellent.
Would not hire again. Received quote for removal of existing flooring and install of new vinyl flooring. When found out that they would have to remove existing floors that were glued down instead of floating flooring they charged us more. If we would have know how much it would of cost to remove the glued down flooring then we would not have gone ahead with installing new flooring in that area. However a good portion of the flooring had been ripped up so we had to go ahead with getting them removed. Wish they would have either known that the flooring was glued down when they gave us a quote or have given two quotes for both scenarios. I appreciate that the company had their worker "fit us in" in order to get the job done in a busy time having him come later day after an already full day. When our carpet was removed the carpet spikes were left on for days causing a hazard for us and our cat. Luckily I realized it before anyone got hurt and covered them up with boxes that we had full of donations. Spikes were not removed for days. Found a razor blade in the bathroom and nails sticking out from the removed baseboards causing further safety issues. Did not wear a mask during job which we said was okay while installing the floors due to heat but asked to wear one when speaking to us. Did not comply. Had to clean up after them many times as dirt and sawdust was left everywhere causing us to have to sweep and clean late at night. They didn't realize that our existing baseboards would have to be replace so they originally suggested and quoted us for quarter rounds be added to them. When they had to fix the existing baseboards they charged us around $900 more to get taller baseboards in. In total with having to remove the old flooring and put in new baseboards it cost us a total of $1200 more then was originally quoted. When they first thought they would only have to put in quarter rounds the flooring was cut sloppily around the edges in numerous places resulting in big gapes between it and the baseboards. The biggest gap was almost an inch wide. Had to patch in small pieces causing us to worry that it would not look good and having to angle the baseboards in an effort to cover the small pieces. In the end the fix was sort of okay and may not be noticed by someone who was not looking closely but not what we would have expected for the money it cost us to have new flooring. Knowing what I know now I will look to getting a signed contract along with the quote and getting details in writing in the future.
Edit:
For clarification, we did not find out the floors were glued down until 1-2 feet of flooring had been ripped up. We thought the original quote would have been honored but we decided to pay the cost anyways, as we didn't know there was another option.
As to the baseboards, it was found late in the process that the original baseboards in placed back in the hall would mean we'd have to paint, we were given the option of getting other ones, and we readily agreed to paying the difference, however we did not find out until they were purchased that portions of the floor were installed up to 3/4 inch away from the wall (spots, not the entire floor) and this meant they needed to be patched in. While it looks ok now, we feel a more consistent install would have made for a much easier and less stressful rest of the project.
Overall we're very appreciative of the effort and hours that were put in, but feel like we were never told all our options or the full story until after we made a decision. If we had been told the floors were glued without them being partially ripped up, we would have made a different decision, if we knew the baseboards weren't going to cover the floor that had been installed too far away from the wall, we would have stayed with the quarter rounds, but we weren't told until just before the boards were installed. We rely on the professionals to help guide us through, and didn't feel like we got that guidance here.
Clearly we both have different views on the situation. We have learned to be more thorough. To ask more questions and go over some "what if" scenarios
Hi Jenny,
Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience. I m sorry that you didn t have a great experience with your flooring project. We will be more careful to these details and did not intentionally mean to cause harm or an unsafe environment to you and your family. As for the extra costs, unfortunately, with these additional expenses due to your hallway floors being glued down, the machine had to be rented and charged to you because the floor would have taken much longer to remove and risk causing more damages to your home had we not rented it. With your approval and agreement we continued the project. We would not know what is underneath your floors without ripping it and we do not rip open floors until the job start. As soon as we did notice these issues, it was addressed to you and you were given an updated invoice once you agree to it. You could have opt out before we installed the baseboards and you could have stopped the project at any point but you approved all changes and made the additional payments for us to proceed. Originally, you were billed to have 1/4 rounds installed infront of your existing baseboards. Because your baseboards were cracked as we had shown you and your floors now unleveled after removing the glue down existing floors, it was ideal to go with taller and slightly thicker baseboards to hide the imperfections on the floors and walls. You decided to upgrade to only 1/2 inch width baseboards after floors were installed, so we had to insert additional flooring to the ends to make up for the 1/4 round and existing baseboard width. Your updated billing included the machine use to rip up the glue down floors, removing and disposing all existing baseboards, and install of new baseboards and baseboard material which you agreed and paid for with no hesitation so we continued the project . We really appreciate your business and if there s anything else that we can do to better your experience, please let me know.
I called Victoria Hardwood Floors needing 2 large holes repaired in my floor asap as it was holding up my reno. Despite being busy they made time to come out and get started on the job at the end of a very long day so my reno wouldn't be held up. It was a tricky job but they did an amazing work and the floor looks as good as new, you can't even tell it was repaired. Excellent craftsmanship, customer service and commitment to customer satisfaction. Catherine even called afterwards to see how it turned out. Highly recommended! When I'm ready to replace my floors, I will definitely be calling them.
Happy to recommend Victoria hardwood floors !
Catherine and crew were responsive to specific needs and restrictions and able to successfully complete the work in the condominium. Our floor is a floating engineered product approximately 25 years old. There were several problem areas and these were handled successfully.
Communication, timeline, cleanup all handled well! Thanks !
I am quite pleased with the work preformed my Victoria hardwood floors.
Our floor is approximately 30 years old and one of the earlier engineered floors.
Hardwood veneer over plywood base. It had never been refinished before. There were a couple of problems where the floor had lifted and they were able to remedy these .
The communication with them was clear throughout. The work was completed on time and done well. I will happily recommend them.

A good experience right from beginning to end! Catherine was very helpful and attentive to my inquiries even though I only had a small job to do. It didn't seem to matter and she had Harley contact me the same day. Harley was also very helpful and accommodating. He worked steady and did an excellent job! I would certainly recommend these two to anyone contemplating a flooring project-big or small!
Victoria Hardwood Floors helped us with refinishing and patching our hardwood floors as we were renovating our kitchen. An excellent job done on refinishing our hardwood floors and patching a spot that didn't have any existing hardwood. A total re-design of our kitchen exposed areas that didn't have hardwood. The patchwork that was done blends in perfectly with the existing hardwood. The patch is impossible to detect. The refinished floors look fantastic, and we couldn't be happier with the result. They worked long hours to help complete the work in time to help us meet some deadlines. Highly recommended.
