We needed several electrical jobs done and used Electrilight (Robert McKinnon). We were very satisfied with the completed work, and with the professionalism of Robert.
We have several more jobs that we want done and Robert will be our electrician of choice.
Very happy to assist you with getting your electrical issues repaired.
Look forward to working for you again.
I have used Rob from Electrilight many times over the last two years. As a general contractor I value Rob's efficiency, attention to detail and his ability to stay on schedule. He is very good with homeowners and listens to what they want.
I would highly recommend Electrilight for any electrical projects.Electrilight is the only Electrical company I use.
It has been a pleasure helping you and your customers also realize what great teams work like together to bring a project to its close as quickly as possible. Scott McKinnon Contracting makes the projects flow smoothly. Bring on the pressure!!
Electrilight Ltd. (Rob) was retained by our kitchen renovation contractor to do the electrical work required for our new kitchen design. Rob performed his work in a truly professional manner. The quality of his work was remarkable and his personable manner was exceptional given the challenges we were encountering during the project. Rob will be my first call for my next project where an electrician is required.
Don,
Your great comments are truly welcome and it was a pleasure working for you. Even with some of the lengthy delays, we still completed a great family space with tons of new electrical appliances! All ready for those Turkey dinners now!
Robert did exceptional work, starting in his first visit by explaining how he planned to do each of the multiple tasks we had listed. He then sent us quotes and the planned schedule for our approval. We were impressed by his ability to reuse parts of existing installations where possible. He showed up at the date and time promised and completed the work as planned. The performance of Electrilight Ltd. is best described as professional, clean, and without surprises. We recommend his services without hesitation or reservation. Note: Where two other professionals had failed, Robert systematically and quickly figured out the reasons for two electrical "mysteries" in our 60+ year old house and then fixed them.
Thank you Ernst,
It was a pleasure working for you and repairing what needed repaired. I wish your family a great fall season.
Robert
Would not recommend based on missing two important requirements.
Hydro One was called and turned off all electricity at the meter outside. Removed old panel that was fixed to a plywood square to concrete block wall in basement. Failed to add solid foam insulation between plywood and concrete block, I believe this requirement is Code now. Used the same piece of plywood .
Second requirement was to install new panel and position the new panel so as to not enter the space of a 6 inch sub wall . The new panel was positioned 2 inches from the corner concrete wall being some 4 inches inside the sub wall, impeding access to the panel cover for future maintenance within the new panel .
We were home all day the contractor Robert was doing the upgrade, he had ample opportunity to ask for guidance or approval 'Prior To' permanently positioning the panel incorrectly or ensuring the insulation layer was added behind the plywood. At no time was any check point done from 7am in the morning to 3 pm when he left the house.
Due to the two missed requirements, Robert was removed from a future job that he was committed to with the home owner, that was completely re-wiring the basement and supplying all lights, plugs and switches.. A considerable contract was lost by his missed requirements.
When upgrading a panel, it is a one shot opportunity to get it right due having Hydro One involved. You can't just move the box over a few inches, as all,the wiring has been completed and there may not be enough wire available to allow for the move, the mistaken requirement is huge.
We are unable to recommend Robert based on the poor net result.
Ted, I feel very underwhelmed by your review. Some of your points are not only inaccurate but also unfair, and I feel the job was carried out exactly as we had agreed in our mutually signed contract. Furthermore, after the work was carried out, you emailed me stating (I quote) "thanks again for your advice and workmanship".
If you felt the work was carried out incorrectly, I would have expected you to contact me to discuss what could be corrected or changed. As such, I never received any indication from you that you were anything other than satisfied, after all, I did request your review for this job.
As per your request, the panel was upgraded to the largest size possible for the empty wall space (bare concrete), allowing for future expansion. We discussed and agreed on the panel size, so I'm very surprised that you now state it's too large. Moreover, the walls that were added after the panel upgrade could have been built to accommodate the size of the panel.
With regards to the insulation behind the panel, that is not standard practice on any panel change, and is not electrical code. Insulation, new plywood and drywall behind the panel could certainly have been added, however, that would have been done by a framing contractor and carried out on the same day as the panel upgrade. During our discussions, you never mentioned installing these items, nor were we ever signed for a "future job" with you that I was removed from.
If the ESA and inspectors weren't satisfied with my installations, they certainly would not pass inspection nor allow my ACP license.
Your points:
Timeliness - 3 - I arrived as promised at 7am and left around 3pm.
Cleanliness - 1 - I removed all debris after completion, you told me to leave my shoes on and said you would sweep.
Budget - 3 - The contract was exactly as promised with no extras, as signed and agreed by both parties.
Quality - 1 - Everything was new and I provided a 2-year warranty.
Communication - 1 - I explained everything step-by-step, from the quote right through to warranty and completion.
Courteous - 1 - I was always polite and courteous, also taking the time to try to resolve this issue with you directly.
I do not feel that your review is accurate and have addressed your points accordingly.
Robert was GREAT! He is friendly and honest. Robert kept the area clean. Our project was done quickly and on budget. As we continue our home renovations, we will have more electrical work that needs to be done and I will not hesitate to call Robert again.
Rob from Electrolight completed all the electrical work for my kitchen renovation. I was very pleased with the work that he did. Always pleasant, courteous, arrived on time, completed the work in a timely fashion and explained everything he was doing. I called him back after the work was completed to install a new light fixture and he was most accommodating in fitting me in to his busy schedule. I would highly recommend Electroilight.
Glad I could help you out Dorothy, pleasure helping. Elec Tri Light Ltd ;) Referrals to firneds, family, neighbors are always welcome.
Rob was on time for site evaluation, quotation and the day of the panel conversion. A permit was taken out for the job. Rob was able to clean up all previous issues he found. There was no extra cost. Rob cleaned up the site and took the time to explain everything that was done. If every contractor was like Rob, Mike Holmes would not have TV show.
Although I would be happy to help out Mike anytime. Habitat for Humanity coming up. It's sometimes about giving back to those who need it, right?
We required a fair amount of electrical work to be completed after a fire at our home. We met Robert McKinnon through our contractor, who brought him in to do the electrical work. I cannot say enough about the service that Robert provided. He was extremely pleasant and professional, and provided us with very helpful advice and information. Through all stages of work he kept us informed, including explaining the inspection process. We would not hesitate to recommend Robert to anyone looking for an electrician.
Such a shame and unfortunate incident within your home, glad to be helpful and part of the recovery team. Hope to see you again.

Robert and I have worked on many projects together over the years. His philosophy is the same as mine, if it is done right the first time you should never see us again about failures or shortcomings on that particular job. If your going to be a bear, it is best to be a grizzly bear. No half-assed, half-hearted attempts in any of Roberts jobs. Robert may not be the cheapest guy on the block, but then again you are not paying for the cheapest guy on the block. I truly believe that any project Robert takes on for his clients will be done not only to the best his ability, but will be done to ensure the safety of those he does work for. Roberts customers will not find him working on any project that he is not 100% sure of. The end result of using Robert at Electrilight Ltd. for all your wiring/cabling projects will always be at the very minimum up electrical code and above Canada's safety standards. No short-cuts, No cheap-outs on materials, No cutting corners to save himself a few dollars. Roberts first priority will always be to ensure that every electrical project he does is done correctly, because, there are few second chances once an electrical fire starts.
